The 2008 Mountain West Conference soccer season is a 10 since eight former members of the Western Athletic Conference unite to form the MW. The University of Utah won their fourth conference championship, ending the year 13-0 with a victory over Alabama at Sugar Bowl 2009.

Max Hall tied the BYU school record by throwing for 7 goals through when Cougars easily defeated UCLA in Provo. Cougars forced four turnovers and blocked one field goal in handed the Bruins their worst defeat in 80 years.

By defeating the 15th ranked Sunblis in their own stadium, the Rebels counted their most memorable win in recent memory. UNLV was forced overtime by tying the game at 20 on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Omar Clayton to Phillip Payne with 18 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Kyle Watson then kicked a 20-yard field goal on Rebel's overtime holdings, and Malo Taumua blocked a 35-yard field effort from Arizona State Thomas Weber field to secure the win.

For the second week in a row, the Rebels decided a team from one of the country's elite conferences on overtime hours. The Cyclones had the first ball in overtime and kicked a 37-yard field ball. Then in the first game of Rebels possession, Omar Clayton threw his third goal from the game to Phillip Payne to win the match.

A week to days after the Beavers had beaten national team # 1, Southern Cal, they fell to Utes in Thursday night thriller. Oregon State led until the end of the fourth quarter, but Utah tied the game at 28-28 with 1:29 left when Brian Johnson hit Bradon Godfrey to score a 25-yard goal and then Johnson ran the ball for a two-point convertible. Defense Ute was able to hold for three and get out, which gave them the ball back with enough time for Louie Sakoda to kick the 37-yard field goal as the time ended to run their record to 6-0.

In a highly anticipated match of the MW rank team, the Horned Frog jumped to 23-0 at halftime and never looked back. TCU fired Max Hall 6 times-including 4 by All-American defensive end Jerry Hughes-and debuted the "Wild Frog" formation with wide receiver Jeremy Kerley lined up in quarterback.

Coming into this Thursday night game, Frogs are 9-1 and Utes 9-0 with the winners putting themselves in a good position for the BCS Bowl bid. Frogs lead 10-0 early, but can not improve that advantage. The new TCU kicker, Ross Evans, missed two field goals in the fourth quarter, and Brian Johnson hit Freddie Brown for a 9-yard touchdown with 48 seconds left to give Utes a 13-10 victory.

In a defensive battle, Cowboys midfielder Ward Dobbs resumed a 24-yard interception to give Wyoming a 13-0 lead in the first half. Despite several drives to the Wyoming area in the second half, Volunteers scored only 7 points. That defeat probably cost the Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer his job.

Colorado State ran back Gartrell Johnson ran for 285 yards and scored twice in the Rams 'Rams' 20th-quarter spike to beat Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl. Johnson's 77-yard touchdown run with 1:46 left gave the Rams the lead for good, securing their first win since 2001.

In a team game whose BCS dream broke at the end of the season, Boise State jumped to the start of a 10-0 lead, but TCU ran back Aaron Brown slashing the lead to 13-7 with a 16-yard touchdown running with 24 seconds remaining in the first half. The Frogs led well on 17-yard touchdown run Joseph Turner with 8:51 left in the fourth quarter. Victory gave TCU their 11-win 3 season in the last 4 years, and was the Boise State's only single defeat this year.

In a rare bowl game featuring a rematch of the regular season, Cougars earned the season's division with the Falcons with a 34-28 win. It was Falcons' second consecutive appearance - and lost - at the Armed Forces Bowl, and was the first Cougars bowl victory since 1980.
