The ring platform is generally 3 to 4 feet (0.91 to 1.22 m) from the ground and covered by about 1 inch (25 mm) pads on it with stretched canvas. The rope is about 1 inch (25 mm) in diameter and at 18, 30, 42, and 54Ã, "inches (0.46, 0.76, 1.07, and 1.37 m) above the mat, held on a pole towering about 5 feet (1.5 m) above the mat,

Construction of the elongated ring environment to maximize the lighting in the ring, minimize heat from the lighting, and as close as possible cut-off lighting in the ringide.

Terminology

The name "ring" is a relic from when the contest fought in a circle drawn roughly on the ground. The name rings continued with the London Prize Ring Rules in 1743, which set a small circle in the middle of the battle area where boxers meet at the beginning of each round. The first square ring was introduced by the Pugilistic Society in 1838. The ring was designated as 24 feet (7.3 m) square and bound by two ropes. For this and other reasons, boxing rings are often referred to as "quadratic circles". The term "ring seats" dates as far back as the 1860s.
