gondolas (usually pronounced in this context) are free-standing fixtures used by retailers to display merchandise. Gondolas usually consist of flat bases and vertical components that feature notches, pegboards, or slatwalls. Vertical sections can be equipped with shelves, hooks, or other displays. Gondolas placed end to end can form rows of shelves while stand-alone gondolas tend to be used for special themed displays. A gondola placed perpendicular to the end of another gondola can be used as an endcap. In Europe gondola usually refers to two-sided store shelves.
