Histori
The development of Mohegan Sun began in 1992 with RJH Development and LMW Investments of Connecticut, and Slavik Suites Inc. proposed the idea of ââdeveloping a casino with the Mohegan tribe. The three companies formed Trading Cove Associates (TCA), which gave Mohegans financial support, tribal lawyers, and advisers to assist in tribal efforts to gain official recognition as people. In March 1994 they gained federal recognition as sovereign, paving the way for developing casinos. The land, previously used by the United Nuclear Corporation to build a nuclear reactor for submarines, has been disabled and cleared. Sol Kerzner, head of Kerzner International (formerly Sun International), was involved with a 50 percent interest in TCA. Waterford Gaming has another 50 percent at TCA. The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (MTGA) hired TCA to oversee casino development and development.
The casino and resort first opened on October 12, 1996. In 2000, Trading Cove Associates gave full control of the resort to the Mohegan tribe, although under the terms of the TCA agreement continues to receive a 5% dividend of gross revenue generated by Mohegan Sun until 2014.

The table games at Mohegan Sun range from 116 blackjack tables, craps, roulette, baccarat, and 3-card poker. They also offer video games blackjack, craps, and roulette.
Economic impact
Mohegan Sun employs approximately 10,000 local employees, with approximately 40% women and 60% of men, and generated $ 1.62 billion in revenue in 2007. Concert and boxing events bring more jobs and temporary income. The casino also delivers about 25% of its revenue from slot machines to Connecticut State. However, this impact has not been without cost to the tribe and the local community. The Mohegan tribe is $ 1.6 billion in debt while local people complain about the increased local charges for services related to casino-related traffic, crime and the demands of social welfare services.
Expansion
Local
In November 2006, the tribe announced a $ 740 million expansion entitled Project Horizon. The project was originally scheduled for completion in 2010, with an expansion phase completed before that. The expansion includes "Casino of the Wind," which opened in August 2008 and features 650 slot machines, 28 game tables, and a 42-table poker room. It will also add 1,000 new hotel rooms, including 300 House of Blues themed rooms, accessible via a separate lobby. However, in September 2008, Mohegan Sun placed Project Horizon's delayed expansion, due to the economic recession affecting the regional gaming market. The feasibility of the expansion will be re-evaluated within a year. However, in 2010, the tribe had a $ 58.1 million damage fee that stopped any work on the project. The Horizon project was finally stopped.
In May 2011, Mohegan Sun announced that the casino will be expanded by building new hotels of 300 to 500 rooms. Expansion will accommodate the increasing demand for hotel rooms in casinos. Mohegans will let third party developers build and own new facilities, unlike existing hotels owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority. However, the land is never damaged on the project.
The expansion plan is once again announced on June 24, 2013 for $ 50 million, 200,000 square feet of "Downtown District," to be built next to the Uncasville Casino Winter Garage, featuring New England-themed food pavilions; cinema screen 14 Marquee screen; upscale bowling-and-eating facilities; and the promenade of retail stores that renters will include Coach, Tiffany, Sephora, Tommy Bahama, Puma, and others. On July 28, 2014, Mohegan Sun announced that it was expected to make a breakthrough by the end of the year at a $ 110 million, 400 room hotel in Mohegan Sun. The hotel will be financed and built by third party developers and then leased back to Mohegan Sun to operate. Construction will begin at the end of the year and open 18-20 months later. It also reported plans to add an additional $ 500 million to the "District Downtown" nongaming to the casino's advanced. This project will be owned and operated by developers.
On November 18, 2016, Mohegan Sun opened The Earth Tower, a $ 139 million hotel that was the second in Mohegan Sun. 400 rooms, the 242,000 square foot hotel will connect to the Casino of the Earth.
Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
On January 25, 2005, Mohegan Sun acquired its first game business outside Connecticut with a purchase of $ 280 million from Pocono Downs Racetrack in Plains Township, Pennsylvania from Penn National Gaming. Mohegan Sun renamed the property "Mohegan Sun in Pocono Downs" and started a major expansion. Operation as the first slot casino in the state of Pennsylvania began in November 2006.
for Mohegan Sun, Massachusetts
On August 2, 2007, the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority purchased 150 hectares (61 acres) of land in the town of Palmer, Massachusetts, a town east of Hampden County, with about 12,000 residents. The land went straight out of exit 8 of the Massachusetts Turnpike. At that time, they have plans to build retail centers and it is not known whether casinos or any type of game will be allowed to happen. A month later on September 17, 2007, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick unveiled a proposal for licensing three full-scale casinos in the state in the bidding process. Locations will be in the western, southeast, and Boston states. Both the Massachusetts and Senate House of Representatives passed legislation to allow casinos in the state, but Governor Patrick refused to sign laws because of his objections to allowing slot machines on the race track. The prospect of validating the casino in the state was held until after the next legislative session began in January 2011. In June 2011, House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo said that the bill to legalize the casino will be taken by state legislators in July pending the outcome of talks with Governor Patrick. In November 2011, Patrick signed a bill allowing three full-scale casinos and one slot machine in the state.
Palmer's casino plan was thrown after voters rejected a proposal for a $ 1 billion casino by a margin of 93 votes. The recalculation of 5221 votes made on 26 November 2013 confirms the rejection by an additional vote resulting in a 94-vote margin. The Quaboag Hills Chamber of Commerce certifies a resort destination project and economic benefits for the region.
Mohegan Sun also competes for a license to develop and operate a casino resort near Boston on the Suffolk Downs racetrack. The plan asks for about 4,000 slot machines, 100 table games, and a poker room on an area of ââ42 hectares on the Revere side of the property. The referendum in Revere to approve the revision of the host community agreement for the proposal was adopted on 25 February 2014 after the first proposed treaty for a plan that straddles the border of two communities was rejected by one - East Boston - and approved by another - Revere. The deal was then made with Boston Mayor Martin Walsh to pay $ 75 million in capital increase to Boston and East Boston and $ 18 million a year in payments to the city should Mohegan obtain a license. The end result depends on the first - the decision of the Massachusetts Game Commission on September 12, 2014, where the Mohegan Sun, Revere or Wynn Resorts site, Everett - will issue a license, and secondly, a state referendum on November 2014 voting that seeks to 2011 law that allows casino gambling in Massachusetts.
New York
In May 2011, Mohegan Sun announced plans to expand to New York with a casino in the Catskills. The casino will take over the construction of the Concord Resort in the town of Thompson, New York. The New York casino will consist of a 258-room hotel, a 75,000-square-foot casino (7,000 m 2 ) with 2,100 video lottery terminals and up to 450 electronic tables, five restaurants, retail space, harness race track, grandstand and simulcast and 10,000 square feet (930 m 2 ) from the ballroom and meeting room. The deal for this casino, however, failed when the New York Gaming Commission picked another location.
Atlantic City
In August 2012, the tribe announced an agreement to take over the management of Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
South Korea
In May 2018, the tribe announced an agreement to buy its international development partner in building a 1,350-room hotel casino at Incheon International Airport near Seoul, South Korea. The tribe reported plans to spend $ 100 million on the project by 2018.
