A pallet jack , also known as a pallet truck , pallet pump , pump truck b>, or jigger is the tool used to lift and move the pallets. The pallet jack is the most basic form of the forklift and is intended to move heavy or light pallets inside the warehouse.

Operational principles
The jack is directed by a 'tiller' like a lever that also serves as a pump handle to raise the jack. The small handle on the tillers releases the hydraulic fluid, causing the fork to descend. The front wheel inside the end of the fork is mounted on the lever connected to the joint leading to the lever attached to the jack cylinder. As the hydraulic jack at the 'tiller' tip is raised, the joint pushes the wheel downward, raises the fork vertically over the front wheel, raises the load upward to clean the floor. Pallet is only raised enough to clean the floor for the next journey. Often, the pallet jack is used to move and adjust the palette inside the trailer, especially when there is no access or availability of forklift trucks.

History
Manual jack pallets have been around since at least 1918. The initial type lifts the fork and loads only with mechanical connection. The more modern type uses hydraulic jacks that are hand pumped to lift.
Type
Manual palette socket
A manual jack pallet is a hand-driven jack. Most commonly seen in retail and personal warehousing operations.
Power palette socket
Powerful palette jack, also known as electric pallet truck, walkie, single or double pallet jack, or electric jack, driven by a motor to enable lifting and moving heavier and overlapping pallets. Some contain platforms for users to stand when moving the palette. The palette-powered cradle is generally driven by the throttle on the handle to move forward or backward and is directed by swinging the handle in the intended direction. Some contain the switch type of the dead rather than the brakes to stop the engine if the user has to stop quickly or leave the machine while it is in use. Others use a system known as "plugging" in which the driver flips the throttle from the front to flip (or vice versa) to slow down and stop the machine, since the switch of the dead is used only in an emergency.
Operational limits
- Reversible palette can not be used.
- Non-reversible non-reversible cartridges can not have decks where the front wheel extends to the floor.
- Only allows two-way entry to the four-way grooved palette, because the fork can not be inserted into the notch.
General dimensions
The North American industry appears to have a 'standard' pallet palette in several ways:
- The width of each of two Forks: 7 "
- Wide Fork, the Dimensions between the outer edge of the fork: Available as 20üü "(51.4 cm) and 27" (68.6 cm)
- Length of Fork: Available as 36 "(91.4 cm), 42" (106.7 cm), 48 "(122 cm)
- Height Decreased: 2.9 "(7.5 cm)
- High Height: At least 7.5 "(19.1), but some will go up higher
In Eurasia the overall dimension is similar, as modern container palettesation has imposed standardization in dimension domains globally.
