Help desk link 2
I have seen the draft going on today. It has no help desk link on it, something I emphasize for a long time. Is there a plan to replace the help page with this draft, missing link? -results talk 01:14, April 25, 2006 (UTC)
- Basically we've suggested that " Where to ask Questions " as the first link on the page, would be a good compromise if it duplicates everything here.
- It seems to be the perfect place to drive all the askers to, and where they can determine what kind of questions they have, and where to go. It also draws attention to the "Frequently Asked Questions" link right next to it in Help: Content, and means this page is less likely. Hopefully, everything simplifies and clarifies/simplifies the aid process. Does that sound good?
- Adding 1 or 2 more links to Wikipedia: The question page can also be a potential option. --Quiddity 01:53, April 25, 2006 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, my position is that there should be a direct link to help reference tables and tables, and links to subpages with other links are not good enough. So I'm not happy about the "where to ask" link. But I think maybe I do not have the will to stand for this position any longer. If you and Gareth consider this issue and decide that you prefer it only with links from subpages, then I am willing to submit the issue. -publishing talk 04:48, April 26, 2006 (UTC)

Well it must be quiet here. I guess because university ends for the summer, and summer starts in the northern hemisphere.. 4 Alternative, feedback, please!
- The verbose link # 1 in the line split in two
- The verbose link # 2 in the right column, the short title
- # 3 short links in the right column, long title, no duplicate "Questions" link at the top
- # 4 verbose link above (from Gareth Aus)
- I like what Quiddity is trying with the draft page (option # 2 ), to highlight the help desk and reference table. They are clearly visible from all other links. -Aude ( talk | contribs ) 00:00, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

- Exit if 1..4 I like 2 3 better than 1 4. Apparently there is an empty cell in the left column, is it waiting for something? Might move the FAQ into this cell if it is completely empty and not a side effect of some table color considerations. --Monniplex 21:00, May 1st, 2006 (UTC)

- Empty left column to visually highlight help links. see Image: Wikipedia the screenshot.gif help menu. I think the FAQ link should be in the top position to stand out.

Help should not hide policy
I found Help: The contents/Policies, conventions, and the guide page are quite unhelpful. This needs to begin by providing an overview of what Wikipedia's goals are and what their policies are, not specific policy details. Currently, for example, the first policy mentioned on the page is "Bots", which is useless for almost every beginner. Taking an introduction from Wikipedia: Policies and guidelines (perhaps incorporating them) will be helpful. r speer / ??? ds ? 21:58, April 25, 2006 (UTC)
- I'll try rework what's there before the List-of inclusions, see how it works for everyone.. --Quiddity 02:31, April 26, 2006 (UTC)
- (after returning to this diff) I delete the title, and delete all previously selected links, replacing them with links from {{Policylist}}. Does it work for everyone?
- Having a 2 "List of..." pages entered makes it all extraordinary, and before that the list looks like a bunch of almost random policies and guidelines. --Quiddity 03:16, April 26, 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm. Well, at least it's no longer crufty, but now it's just a list. People still have to use two links in Help to get to the actual policy. This new version transclude into "Sitemap" is much better, but I do not think that transclusion should be the main purpose of this page. There's no way you'll find a nice page to put in a site map that's also great as your own help page. r speer / ??? ds ? 05:15, April 26, 2006 (UTC)
- Correcting transclusion sitemap is not part of my motivation;) What do you expect/expect to find on that page? Short version of Wikipedia: Policies and guidelines? I would suggest that this is what Wikipedia means: Five Pillars. If only one sentence explanation, you are welcome to add/suggest something. --Quiddity
- We may also change the example listed from {{Policylist}} selection (12) to those listed in the Community Portal # Policies and guidance sections (20). --Quiddity 01:20, May 2, 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that sounds like a good idea too. - S iva1979 Talk to me 4:27, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

input requests on the following
- Help: The contents of the subpage are (currently) a mixed list of common and defined list styles (see communication). Simple list style is easier to scan "keyword" but more mysterious; defined list styles are clearer but textually dense. I'm not sure if we are moving towards one of the extremes (or are happy with the current mix), or who is responsible for the early varieties. (Hurray for design by committee!)
- I have operated on the assumption that this Help: The content page is just that, the table of contents for the hundreds of pages we have. A wooden board is installed at the crossroads, if you will. (interdimensional spaghetti interchange...). Maybe this is a false assumption, in which case someone gave me a new direction/metaphor to drive to please :) - Quiddity 05:50, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Help entry for "Image Deletion" is missing from the help topics list
Maybe it's just me, but I'm having serious trouble finding my way to the help section for image removal. Could it be added to the list? My personal issue with the issue facing new account holder: [Application]. - No comments previously signed by Pia L (talk o contribs) 21:25, May 6, 2006 (UTC).
- To clarify the above, I am referring to my difficulty in finding instructions on how to make image removal requests instead of the actual image removal instructions. Links from the main help page to a section with one or two sentences explaining whether such requests are needed or not, under what circumstances recommendations are recommended, and whether the removal process is automatic or not if your image is not tagged correctly and you do not include it for deleted on the removal list somewhere, would be great. Also: Thanks for all the work put into the help section! My lack of patience in searching for answers, of course, is not meant to reflect on all the great people working in the help department. I just want to point out that it's hard to find answers to questions about the removal process from the main menu. Pia 00:41, May 7, 2006 (UTC)

- I've added it to the Pictures and media section - but it is a link to an IFD page, not specifically a help page like that (I do not know if such a thing exists - the IFD page has a guide at the top and information about how lists and images to delete). I have posted a welcome tag on your Pia talk page, as you do not already have it - which lets you know that you do not have to worry about typing a name or timestamp, just type four tilde (~~~~) at the end of your message and automatically will add your name and time until the end of the post. Image help link
I have modified the image help link shown in Help: Content, adding "Upload an image" and "Image rights tag". Improper images (such as copyright infringement) are often problematic. And, for those who understand that they can not upload copyrighted images, they also often have questions and confusion about copyright tags. To overcome that, I also added relevant instructions to Wikipedia: Upload images, as well as information on when/how to use Wikimedia Commons. Although, I think this instruction page can be more improved and more organized. -Aude ( talk | contribs ) 02:23, May 7, 2006 (UTC)

It does not work with Opera 7 - probably not with previous versions as well. Keep exploring the header bar
Category browse bar header [1] should be saved because it makes the table look encyclopedic and like it belongs on the page. This page is named Help: Contents. I suspect that most people who use computers know the meaning of menu words, so I do not agree to label the contents table as "Help Menu." This page is called Help: Content. The category bar bar makes the page useful for people looking for articles, not just for editors. Although "Category" and "A-Z Index link" should be in the navigation box, but not. The page is already mentioned at the top of the page, so better use for the headers of the table of contents is the category search bar. This makes the page more visible to the outside, providing help to find articles about something other than Wikipedia itself.-- Chuck Marean 00:10, July 27, 2006 (UTC)

- I have returned from Chuck's integration from browsebar [3], mainly because I believe we should still only help the pages listed here; but also because there are already many links here. But the style is good, and the changes can certainly be discussed. I still suggest this would be the preferred alternative though (however, it would require tremendous support to be added,

update content
I have manually updated Help: Turns off the master. There is a strange problem with the template at the bottom, Template: Ph: Reverting, which contains some outdated information on the old page. Specifically, it tells users to precisely simulate a summary of the re-edit of an admin when it returns, something that each rollback emulation consciously avoids. In Meta, m: Template: Ph: Restore, template at the bottom of the article here, is redirection to m: Template: Ph: CheckUser and has no content, so template here seems to have been created on en. Meanwhile on meta, m: Help: Returns have m: Template: H: f Help at the bottom, which contains nav help. I do not know if I should stick m: Template: H: f Help to Template: Ph: Returns, so it's quite empty so we do not tell new users bad information. I'm sure someone has a clear idea of ââwhy this is not being updated and how it should fit together, so I leave it to those who are more knowledgeable than I. - BanyanTree 23:09, October 24, 2006 (UTC)

My grandmother is her widow, so I have many photos of her to choose one of them. Can this be done on Wikipedia? - Unmarked comments previously added by Barry Moreno (talk o contribs).
- Sure, that would be great! Take a look at Wikipedia: Upload an image for help on how to do it. Rfrisbie talk 17:41, October 26, 2006 (UTC)
