Dunham was born in Dallas, Texas on April 18, 1962. When he was three months old, he was adopted by real estate appraiser Howard Dunham, and wife of housewife Joyce, who raised her in a pious Presbyterian household in a prosperous Dallas neighborhood,.

He started ventriloquism in 1970 at the age of eight, when his parents gave him Mortimer Snerd dolls for Christmas, and a way-to-follow album. The next day he checked the guidebook on ventriloquism from the library, and explained in 2011 that he still had it, commenting that he was "a thief in the third grade". In the fourth grade, Dunham decided he did not just want to become a professional ventrilokui expert, but the best ever. Dunham began practicing for hours in front of a mirror, studying Edgar Bergen's routine, and how to record Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism, finding ventriloquism to be a learned skill, similar to juggling, that anyone with a normal speaking voice can earn. Dunham had explained that, as an only child, he enjoyed solitude, equating his solitude with a "warm blanket" by which he could explore his own thoughts and ideas, preparing him for the solitude of his own life when he later moved to Los Angeles. Angeles as a struggling comedian.

When Dunham was in the sixth grade, he began attending Vent Haven ConVENTION at Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, an international annual meeting of ventriloquists that included the competition, where he met Jimmy Nelson in person. Dunham had only missed a CONVENTION since then, in 1977. ConVENTION organizers finally declared Dunham a "retired champion", not qualified to enter other competitions, as other participants were too intimidated to compete with him. The Vent Haven Museum devotes part to Dunham, alongside SeÃÆ' Â ± or Wences and Dunham's idol, Edgar Bergen.

Careers

Beginning

Dunham began performing for the audience as a teenager, in various places such as school, church, and during his work at Six Flags. In his high school years, he began performing for banquet events attended by local celebrities such as Dallas Cowboys midfielder Roger Staubach, who has developed a mocking style of his people, using dolls to say things that are too shocking for him to say without them. Dunham's television debut came in 1976 when a preteen player caught the attention of Dallas reporters like Bill O'Reilly, who interviewed Dunham for local news. Dunham then advertised for Datsun dealerships in Dallas and Tyler while still in high school. While performing at a high school talent show, he dealt with a troublemaker, and won the entire audience. During this period he became so associated with his skills that he and one of his "friends" wrote a column in the school newspaper, and he would pose with dolls for the yearbook as a cheap way to get professional photos of his actions for promotional purposes.. He was voted the Most Possible to Succeed, and in 1980, after he graduated from high school, Dunham gave himself a career goal to acquire, within ten years, an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson , which seen as a "holy grail" for comedians.

That year Dunham began studying at Baylor University, hoping to graduate with a degree in communications, while performing around the campus. He will also fly across the country on weekends, performing up to 100 private events a year, entertaining corporate customers such as General Electric, whose CEO, Jack Welch, he mocked him during his routine. In his first year at college (1983-84), Dunham earns $ 70,000 a year, and when words spread from his acting, he gained an open space for Bob Hope and George Burns, though he still considers his actions as raw, has knowledge of stand-up comedy outside Bill Cosby's album.

He was caught breaking in 1985 when he was asked to join the Broadway show Sugar Babies with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller, replacing various exit actions. For the naive and pious Dunham, Broadway is a new world filled with beautiful girls and crisp stage platforms, and the first taste of the entertainment industry's ego comes when Rooney calls Dunham into the dressing room, and tells him that he's there for just one reason : to allow Rooney to change his costume. She performed at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. These early experiences, in which he used a character like JosÃÆ'Â © JalapeÃÆ'Â ± o on Stick, taught him the value of modifying his actions regionally, because the jokes working well in Texas were not well received by the spectators on Long Island.. After graduating from Baylor University in 1986, he continued to hone his acting in a comedy club in the Southwest with new characters such as Peanut and JosÃÆ'Â Â © JalapeÃÆ'Â ± o, but struggled against the perceptions he linked from fellow comedians that he was not a true comedian because he rely on props.

His experience at Catch a Rising Star in New York City served as a bitter confirmation in which the ventriloquists stood on the comedy food chain, as the host at the club gave a little respect to Dunham. According to Dunham, after he arrived at the club at night and told the host that he was a ventriloquist, the show host reacted with derision, telling Dunham that he would be given a late time slot, and after that time slot came and went, Dunham until Dunham left the club.

At the end of 1988 Dunham felt his career went as far as he could in Texas, and he moved to Los Angeles, California, never had, as he commented, "real work," which was very worrying about his parents, who thought he was going to alienate his actions to local places such as church groups. When he first arrived in Los Angeles, comedy in action was bombed. Dunham attributes this initial reaction to his undeveloped comedy, explaining that while the character personality was developed at the time, the joke was not. In addition to this, the comedy world is not friendly to ventriloquists, and its manager, Judi Brown-Marmel, does not use the word "ventriloquist" when looking for reservations for him, choosing to present him as a comedy duo. After Dunham befriended Mike Lacey, owner of The Comedy & amp; Magic Club at Hermosa Beach, Lacey gave Dunham a permanent slot at the club, where Dunham sharpened his actions by observing comedian techniques like Jerry Seinfeld, and taking advice from fellow Bill Engvall, moving away from his G-Rated material into edgier, more themes adult.

The Tonight Show

At the end of 1988 Dunham was told by James McCawley, a talent booker for The Tonight Show, starring Johnny Carson, that Dunham would be given a place in the coveted program. Although 26-year-old Dunham was delighted that his 10-year target arrived two years early, McCawley then canceled Dunham's appearance after attending, with Roseanne Barr, Dunham's public appearance the day before Dunham was scheduled for the Tonight Show recording. McCawley told Dunham on the scheduled recording day that he had been wrong in Dunham's initial judgment, which he said was not ready for The Tonight Show. Dunham continued to tighten his acting at the Los Angeles club, doing the same six-minute segment with Peanut nine times for McCawley over the next few months. Finally at the Ice-House in Pasadena in April 1990, after Dunham did the same segment, McCawley told Dunham that he would eventually get his Tonight Show appearance. Dunham and Peanut appeared on the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on April 6, 1990, along with guests Bob Hope and B.B. King. After a bit, he was invited to sit on Johnny Carson's couch, a sign of approval at Carson show. Sitting next to Carson's desk, Dunham took Walter, who told Carson Edwin's sidekick, "Stop sending me all your damn letters." At the time, Dunham saw his Tonight Show appearance as a big pause, but frustrated over his parents' disapproval of using Walter's "hell" and "dammit" words, and he would work hard in obscurity for two 12 years old, continues to stand in places like the Improv chain, and appear in small roles on TV. One of them was the 1996 episode of Ellen , in which she appeared with Walter. Dunham also appeared with Walter in a TV commercial for Hertz. Dunham will appear on The Tonight Show four times, as well as a similar TV spot like Hot Country Nights, appearing in a segment with Reba McEntire. This exposure helped make Dunham a great theater leader, a rare achievement for a ventriloquist, but in the mid-1990s his television appearance had diminished, and with them, so did the stage audience.

Dunham moved back to the club, more than 200 appearances in a year. To maintain a connection with his fan base, he will use the question card he filled in for his show to build a database, tailored for the emerging World Wide Web. Although he was voted the Most Funny Man at the American Comedy Awards in 1998, his club's work kept him from his wife and daughter between two and three weeks each month, which weighed on his marriage, and paid the bill for his extended family. difficult. In 2002, Dunham hopes to get more TV works to improve his profile and simplify his stand-up schedule. Such exposure was elusive until a successful performance at the Best Damn Show Period, in which Dunham and Walter made a joke at the expense of Tom Arnold's colleagues, Michael Irvin, John Salley and John Kruk, produced laughter from them, a much needed exposure of Dunham. In 2003, Dunham was the pioneer to replace Jimmy Kimmel on Fox NFL Sunday, but the host of Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw disagreed with the idea of being defeated by the doll, and, as Dunham said, friendly to Dunham, or let him talk a lot during his performance.

First Primary Comedy

On July 18, 2003, Dunham appeared on Comedy Central Presents , his first solo performance at Comedy Central. For half an hour, he presented JosÃÆ'Â © JalapeÃÆ'Â ± o on Stick, Walter, an early version of Melvin the Superhero Guy and Peanut, which Dunham had started doing merchandises into a row of dolls. His performance was successful, but Comedy Central refused to give more time in the air, feeling that he was not right for them. In 2005 Dunham decided to gamble to finance his own comedy DVD, Jeff Dunham: Debate with Myself, recorded in Santa Ana, California. Dunham's manager, Judi Brown-Marmel, lobbied the network to show it, pointing to the strength of Dunham's withdrawal and trading in profits, and on the grounds that the network needed more diverse content. Surprised by the high ratings of the first Blue Collar Comics concert film of the same year, the network began to reconsider its brand. At the end of 2006, Comedy Central aired Debate with Myself , drew two million viewers while airing, and sold two million DVDs.

In 2007, Dunham appeared as The Amazing Ken with JosÃÆ'Â Â © JalapeÃÆ'Â ± o on Stick in the movie Larry the Cable Guy featuring the film Delta Farce . The second special, Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity, was recorded at Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. in the same year. This was not only to unite Dunham's fame, but to introduce his most controversial character, Achmed the Dead Terrorist, which became the Internet's viral sensation. The Achmed clip of Insanity drew more than 140 million clicks on YouTube, making it the ninth most watched clip on the website in October 2009.

In 2008, Dunham's characters have crossed the language barrier, with special offers dubbed for audiences in countries such as France, and Dunham attracted requests for performances in South Africa, Australia, Norway, Denmark, China and the Middle East. Jeff Dunham Special Specials was recorded at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the same year, and aired on Comedy Central on November 16, 2008, watched by 6.6 million people. It became available on DVD and Blu-ray on November 18, 2008. The special broadcast was the highest showing in Comedy Central history.

In September 2008, his career reached new heights when he began performing in an arena filled with tens of thousands of people. Dunham was rather wary of such great spots, but adapted by adjusting his often fast exchange times with the dolls so that members of the audience furthest from the stage could have time to react.

In addition to comedy specials, Dunham also released his first music album, Do not Come Home for Christmas , on November 4, 2008. It contains original Christmas songs and a parody of "Jingle Bells" "by Achmed entitled" Jingle Bombs. "All the songs, with the exception of" Jingle Bombs ", are written and accompanied by Brian Haner, who joins the action of Dunham as" Guitar Guy. "His first on-screen appearance is at Special Dunn Special Specials Jeff Dunham .

2009-present

In March 2009, Dunham signed a multi-platform agreement with Comedy Central. These include four special stand-ups for airs in 2010, DVDs, consumer product partnerships, a 60-city tour that began in September 2010, and an order for a television series called The Jeff Dunham Show that aired on October 22, 2009. Despite having the most watched premiere in Comedy Central history, and a higher average rating than any other event on the network at first, the show was canceled after just one season, amid poor reviews, decreased and higher production costs. from other Comedy Central events.

Dunham appeared in a guest role with Bubba J on NBC's sictom 30 Rock , playing a ventriloquist named Rick Wayne and his stuffed Pumpkin from Stone Mountain, Georgia. In November 2009 Dunham also appeared with Walter in "Hart to Hart", an episode of the Disney Channel series Sonny With a Chance, as two security guards. She appeared in the 2010 Steve Carell/Paul Rudd comedy, Dinner for Schmucks, like Lewis, with a new doll named Diane.

Her fourth privilege, Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos, was aired on September 25, 2011, at Comedy Central. The five specials, Minding the Monsters , recorded in Savannah, aired on Comedy Central on October 7, 2012. Her sixth special, All Over the Map, recorded in various international cities, aired on Comedy Central on November 16, 2014.

Critique and critical controversy

In January 2008, Dunham was selected by Top Comic fans at Comedy Central's "Stand-Up Showdown". She is the only person who has ever won the "Ventriloquist of the Year" award twice, nominated as "Best Comedian" by TNN Music City News Country Awards, and has been praised by Dallas Morning News for the technique and the time. Critics, such as Randee Dawn of The Hollywood Reporter, accused Dunham's character of being a racist, sexist, and homophobic caricature.

In 2008, TV commercials for ringtones featuring the character of Dunham, Achmed the Dead Terrorist (see Characters below) were banned by the South African Advertising Standards Board after a complaint was filed by a citizen claiming that the ad offended Muslims, and depicted all Muslims as terrorists. Dunham replied that "Achmed made it clear that I am not a Muslim." However, the ASA notes that Achmed's name is derived from Arabic and is one of Muhammad's names. Dunham replied, I have been stabbing white, black, Hispanic, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, gay, straight, redneck, addict, parent, and my wife.As a standal comic, it is my duty to make some big people laugh, and I believe that comedy is the last form of freedom of speech... I am considering changing the name of Achmed 'Bill' "." Dunham has acknowledged that he showed a special sensitivity to "the conservative country crowd, "or those characterized by" basic Christian values ", because they are one of its greatest constituencies, and part of its nature.

Dunham was criticized and criticized for ridiculing TV critics during a July 2009 press tour to promote Comedy Central TV's upcoming series, The Jeff Dunham Show, as well as Comedy Central's head of programming Lauren Correo. In October 2009 The Jeff Dunham Show enjoyed a good starting rank but was disliked by critics, some of whom questioned the wisdom of translating the action into the series, or citing Dunham, his previous special, or his own ventriloquism as an excuse for not liking the show.

J.P. Williams, producer of Blue Collar Comedy Tour, argues that Dunham's actions are not funny with his own ability, and that his material gets a bigger reaction because of the puppet characters than the other way around. Blue Collar veteran Bill Engvall, a Dunham friend, insists on the contrary, saying that Dunham is basically funny with or without dolls.

In a 2014 show in Malaysia, the government requested that he not use or name Achmed on his show. Due to the restrictions, but to avoid disappointing fans, Achmed was renamed "Jacques Merde, Terrible French Terrorist" (Jacques Merde means "Jack Shit").

Character

Walter

Walter is a retired, angry old man with his hands always crossed in dissatisfaction. Dunham was inspired to create Walter when he watched Bette Davis's last appearance on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, giving his honesty, without realizing it to Walter, and bringing Walter's own frown in Dunham himself. He has an insolent, negative and often sarcastic outlook in today's world. He is a Vietnam War veteran and former welder, and "does not care" anyone, especially his own wife and members of a particular audience. Walter appeared in all four Comedy Central specials. She's been married for decades. When Dunham asked him if he remembered the happiest moments of his life after Walter told him that he had been married for forty-six years, Walter replied, "Forty- seven years ago!" Dunham created Walter's own puppets, including early sculptures and silicone prints, though he eventually started using professional effects firms for the final stage with his next doll.

In Relative Disaster it reveals that Walter may be Jeff's biological father.

Peanut

Peanut is "woozle" hyperactive and purple-skinned with white fur covering most of his body, a green tuft of hair at the top of his head, and one sneaker on his left leg. Dunham explained in Argue with Myself that Peanuts came from the tiny Micronesian island, and that they met in Florida. Peanut tastes are not based on certain motives or stereotypes, like other characters, and have been described as "bad boys". He often mocks Dunham, and torture and mock JosÃÆ' JalapeÃÆ' Â © Â ± o on a Stick. Touching on her unusual appearance and personality, she asked Dunham in Debate with Myself , after Dunham denied ever doing drugs, "Then how can you come with me?"

JosÃÆ' Â © JalapeÃÆ' Â ± o on the Stick

JosÃÆ'Ã… © is a chili jalapeà ± a on a stick that wears a small sombrero. JosÃÆ' ©, who speaks with a thick Spanish accent, is usually paired with Peanuts, who often mocks Josà ©  ©, using a call for Latino stereotype while doing so, and mocks his whereabouts on a stick. Although JosÃÆ' © © was not Dunham's first puppet, it was the first one that Dunham made himself.

Dunham has not used Josà ©  © in any specials since "Minding the Monsters", even though he was referenced by Walter in Relative Disaster .

Bubba J

Bubba J is a redneck beer-drink that Dunham explains in Arguing with Myself Specialized Christmas Specials as a "white garbage park park", and whom Dunham uses for humor centered on stereotypes like that. To this end, he often does jokes involving Bubba J's love of beer and NASCAR, and his low intelligence. Alluding to such stereotypes, Bubba mentions in Arguing with Myself that he met his wife at a family reunion, and remember seeing him with a corn dog in one hand, another beer, and leaning on a ferris wheel, "making it tilted ". Although he did not appear onstage, Bubba has an important role as a backstage security guard in Controlled Chaos .

Sweet Daddy Dee

Dunham introduced Sweet Daddy Dee in Debating with Myself as his "new manager". He calls himself a "pimp", which he says stands for "Player In the Management Profession." According to Sweet Daddy, because he's a pimp, it makes Jeff the "ho". When Dunham objects, Daddy Dee points out that Dunham makes people laugh and feel good for a living. When Dunham agrees that this is the case, Daddy Dee says, "You're a ho." When Dunham asks what he would say if he told him that he was a comedian just because he was enjoying it, Daddy Dee replied, "You're stupid." ho. "Unlike Bubba J, he hates NASCAR." Sweet Daddy's gravestone is an early special feature of Monster Maintenance. "As revealed in the DVD release, it signifies that he will not be used again, but he reappears in some videos on Jeff's YouTube channel, he is also referenced in Relative Disaster .

Melvin the Superhero Guy

Melvin wore a blue superhero costume, and used to make fun of superheroes. When asked about her super powers, she points out that she has an X-ray vision, adding, "I love to see boobies!" He seems to have no other power, but: When Dunham asks how far he can fly, he replied, "How far can you throw me?", And when asked if he can stop bullets like Superman, he replied, "Yes.. Dunham describes Melvin unimpressed with other superheroes: When told that Superman can jump over tall buildings in one turn, Melvin rejects him as "showing off," arguing that he can easily walk around them, observing that Aquaman has the power just like SpongeBob SquarePants, asserts that the super-Flash speed comes from methamphetamine, that Hulk's ability to become stronger when he is mad just as "everybody's white garbage in COPS ," and makes satire about the questionable relationship between Batman and underage Robin. The first appearance on Melvin's screen is in the July 2003 episode Comedy Central Presents , where she has small, black, and round eyes. With his next appearance, in Spark of Insanity, he has been modified to have large, blue, and crossed eyes. He has a very large nose, which he thinks is his emblem, and which has a similar form with the penis being alluded to. Dunham sculpted the current version of Melvin's head, and hired a securities firm called Renegade Effects Groups to make rubber molds and finish the dolls, before then installing the mechanics themselves. The Melvin tombstone is featured at the beginning of the Minding the Monsters special. As revealed in the DVD release, this indicates that he will not be used again.

Reaching Dead Terrorists

Achmed is the skeleton corpse of an incompetent suicide bomber, which Dunham uses to mock contemporary issue of terrorism. He is known for shouting, "Shut up! I lie to you!" to Dunham and people laughing in the audience. Achmed first appeared in the Spark of Insanity, and has since appeared in every specialty Dunham ever since. In Spark of Insanity the audience learns a few things about Achmed. When Dunham said that Achmed had to die because he was a skeleton, Achmed replied, "It's a flesh wound." When Dunham asks how he died, Achmed explains his inability with the explosives, while also blaspheming Dunham's sexual sophistication by saying that they both suffered from a "premature blast". Although he often mentioned working for Osama Bin Laden, Achmed denied being a Muslim and said, "Look at my ass! It says 'Made in China'!" He said he was scared of Walter, partly because he was "one of the brats" and found Walter's bloated stomach to be stronger than Saddam Hussein's mustard gas. In Special Christmas, she sang a song called "Jingle Bombs".

In June 2009, a sketch in which Dunham introduced Achmed has collected nearly 200 million views. The large, round, articulated eyes of dolls such as Achmed and Achmed Junior were built by the same effect artist who created the dinosaur eye for the Jurassic Park movie. The popularity of this character leads to a leading role in Achmed Saves America , an animated film aired on Country Music Television in March 2014. In the film, which depicts the accident that caused the skeleton of character, Achmed himself was in an American city named Americaville, which he planned to blow up, before developing an affinity for American culture.

Jeff Small

Little Jeff is Dunham's own miniature version, usually wearing the same clothes Dunham worn during the show. He appears in Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos as a doll that nuts use when trying to do ventriloquism like Dunham. Nuts are named the doll "Little Ugly Ass-Jeff", and use him to insult Dunham. In Unhinged in Hollywood , Dunham himself became his mastermind, and gave him a different voice than he did in the previous show.

Diane

Diane first appeared with Dunham in the 2010 film "Dinner for Schmucks" as "Debbie", "wife" character. He made his debut stand-up at Dunham's Identity Crisis Tour 2010.

Achmed Junior

Achmed Junior is an estranged son of Achmed. Its features were designed by Madness's magazine illustrator Tom Richmond, and first appeared during Identity Crisis Tour 2010, and made her first screen appearance in Dunham's fourth special, Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos . Like his father, Achmed Junior is a bomb victim, resulting in the destruction of half his face and body. He speaks with a British accent because he grew up in England after the accident. Much to his father's concerns, he reveals his appeal to the hands of Dunham's stage man, Marnell, who constantly comes on stage as Achmed continues to lose his balance in the pulpit and eventually Marnell brings the tape. He does not want to be a suicide bomber.

Seamus

Seamus is the latest addition Dunham adopted for his family. She is an Irish baby, but has experience in drinking. He was introduced on Netflix specifically .
