The treadmill table, running table or workstation treadmill is a customized computer table so that the user runs on a treadmill while performing office tasks. People who use treadmill desks try to change the sedentric lifestyles associated with becoming office workers and to integrate soft workouts into their workdays.

History
People with less sedentary lifestyle are at higher risk for heart disease, diabetes, and life expectancy lower than average. Table treadmills are exercise machines that office workers can use to get more physical activity during their workday. On the premise of increased productivity and health, treadmill tables are designed to help users incorporate standing and walking into their work routines.
Nathan Edelson first proposed the idea of ââa desk. and published the first peer review article on the topic. A lightweight, portable version of the table for use with a patented treadmill in 1993. Edelson produced several prototypes used in home and office offices since the early 1990s by utilizing treadmills, stationary bikes, and standing upright for work. (see photos of the prototype)
Seth Roberts, a UC Berkeley psychology professor who designed a treadmill table in 1996, was an early adopter.
The New York Times credits Dr. James Levine, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic, as a popular inspiration for treadmill tables. He developed the concept as part of his work with non-exercise thermogenesis activity, building a treadmill table by placing the hospital bed tray on a $ 400 treadmill.
After testing the treadmill table in 2006 for several months under the supervision of Dr James Levine, Roger Highfield helped popularize the idea in the UK. He now uses one at the Science Museum in London and has advocated their widespread adoption.
In 2009, TrekDesk Treadmill Desk entered the market as the first tall table that can be adapted to a universal design that matches the existing treadmill. In 2013, novelist Amanda Filipacchi wrote an essay for the Wall Street Journal about buying a LifeSpan Fitness treadmill table for herself and TreadDesk Football for her partner after reading about Susan Orlean having a treadmill table.

Security and usage specifications
The recommended speed to walk on a treadmill while working on a computer is less than 2 miles per hour. To prevent injury, treadmill desks require compliance with the same ergonomic safety standards recommended for each computer desk, including placement in such a way that the user's wrist is flat by the keyboard, their elbows form a 90 degree angle while typing, and their eyes may be looking forward to monitor.
The treadmill table is equipped with safety features to minimize the chance of injury. The security key attaches the console to the clothing article to the user. Speaking on the phone while walking can be annoying in some cases either because it changes the user's breathing rate or because of the noise from the treadmill itself.
Treadmill tables are not intended to provide aerobic exercise, but rather to keep the user's metabolism above the basal metabolic rate.

According to a study by James Levine at the Mayo Clinic, users can burn about 100-130 calories per hour at slower speeds than 2 miles per hour. According to a Mayo Clinic 2007 study of office workers with obesity, "If a computer sit-time is superseded by walk-and-work, energy spending can increase by 100 cal/h So if an obese individual replaces the time spent sitting on a computer with computer time running 2-3 s/d 20-30 kg/year can occur. Recent studies show that long sitting is associated with "an increased risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and even premature death."
Style and cost
There are several types of treadmill tables available on the open market. Treadmill tables fall into three categories:
- table designed to cover traditional treadmills
- The treadmill is designed to fit under a standing table
- The table is made on the treadmill by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
In 2013 in the United States, a product testing organization tests treadmills priced at $ 750 and $ 1500, and recommends that consumers purchase models with the appropriate safety and personalization features for each user. A variety of guides to build a treadmill table are available.
