A tape dispenser is the object that holds the recording roll and has a mechanism at one end to cut the ribbon. Dispensers vary widely based on the recordings they release. The most numerous and most common tape dispensers, obvious (as used in the office or at home) are usually made of plastic, and may be disposable. Other dispensers are stationary and may have advanced features to control cassette usage and improve ergonomics.

Histori
Prior to the development of tape dispensers, the standard 3M standard scotch tape is sold as scrolls, and should be carefully peeled off the tip and cut with scissors. To make the product more useful, the sales manager of scotch tape at 3M, John Borden, designed the first tape dispenser in 1932, which had a built-in cutting mechanism and would hold the cutting edge of the tape until subsequent use.

Handheld Dispenser
Hand-held dispensers are variations of hand-held tape dispensers used to apply tape to closed boxes, etc. Some refer to it as "pita gun".
Some dispensers are small enough so that the dispenser, with tape in it, can be brought to the point of application for operator convenience. Dispensers allow for convenient cut-offs and help operators apply (and sometimes help rub) the tape.

Pull-and-tear
Desk or table dispensers are often used to hold cassettes and allow the operator to draw the desired amount, tear the tape, and take the tape to work.
Regulator of electronic stationary band
Desk dispensers are available with the help of electricity to remove and cut the pressure-sensitive tape to a predetermined length. They are often used in industrial settings to increase productivity along the manufacturing or assembly lines. They eliminate the need to measure manually and cut each individual tape on high-volume products or packaging. By automating this process, automatic tape dispensers reduce material waste caused by human error. They also reduce the time it takes to cut each tape, thereby reducing labor costs and increasing productivity.
Automatic tools
Some recording machines are semi-automatic: the operator picks up the object and puts it in or through a machine that automatically implements the recording. This helps save time and controls ribbon consumption.
Fully automated equipment available that does not require operator. All functions can be automated.
High-speed packaging machine is an example of highly automated equipment.
Gummed (water-activated) tape dispenser
A welded (air-activated) tape dispenser measures, removes, moistens, and cuts adhesive attached or water-activated adhesive. These recordings often consist of paper backing and adhesive glue that can not be attached until "activated" by contact with water. To accomplish this step, the embedded dispenser often uses a water bottle and wetting brush to moisten each piece of masking tape when removed. Many dispensers are attached to the heating feature, which is mounted over the feed area to keep the water dispenser temperature. This heater ensures maximum wetting, and is ideal in cold climates. The embedded ribbon dispenser is often used in packaging or shipping department to seal the corrugated box.
