The third-generation iPad (marketed as new iPad , colloquially referred to as iPad 3 ) is a tablet computer, developed and marketed by Apple Inc.. The third device in the iPad tablet, he added Retina Display, a new Apple A5X chip with quad-core graphics processor, 5 megapixel camera, 1080p HD video recording, voice dictation, and support for LTE network in North America. It ships with iOS 5, which also provides a platform for audio-visual media, including electronic books, magazines, movies, music, computer games, presentations and web content.
In the US and Canada, nine variations of third-generation iPad are offered, compared to six worldwide, although some countries only have Wi-Fi models only. Each variation is available with a black or white windshield panel, with options for storage of 16, 32, or 64Ã, GB. In North America, only Wi-Fi connectivity options, 4G (LTE) Wi-Fi on Verizon, AT & amp; T, Telus, Rogers, or Bell. For worldwide outside of North America, only Wi-Fi connectivity options (on Wi-Fi models) or Wi-Fi 3G (on Mobile Wi-Fi models), with the latter not available in some countries, as 4G connectivity (LTE) for devices not available outside North America. Mobile Wi-Fi model includes GPS capability.
Initially, the mobile version was titled and marketed worldwide as a "Wi-Fi 4G" model, but due to regional differences in the 4G (LTE) connectivity classification outside North America, Apple later changed the brand and changed their marketing to call it Model "Wi- Fi Mobile ".
The tablet was released in ten countries on March 16, 2012. The album received positive reviews, earning praise for the Retina display, processor and 4G (LTE) capabilities. However, controversy arose when the incompatibility of LTE became known. Three million units were sold in the first three days.
After just seven months (221 days) of official availability, the third-generation iPad was discontinued on October 23, 2012, after the fourth generation iPad announcement. The third generation iPad has the shortest period of any iOS product. This is also the last iPad that supports 30-pin dock connector, as the fourth generation iPad and then using the Lightning connector.

Histori
Speculation about this product started shortly after Apple released iPad 2, featuring front and rear cameras and Apple A5 dual-core processor. Speculation increased after the 2048-by-1.536 pixel screen news was leaked. During this time, the tablet was called "iPad 3", the everyday name is sometimes still used after the release. On February 9, 2012, John Paczkowski of All Things Digital stated that "Apple did not hold an event in February - odd, unusual or otherwise, but it was held in March - to launch the next iPad." Another common rumor at the time was that the tablet would have an Apple A6 processor.
On February 29, 2012, Apple announced a media event scheduled for March 7, 2012 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The company is not predicting the subject of the event, but analysts widely expect the show to announce a new version of the iPad. The announcement affected the tablet market resale positively.
At the event, Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced iOS 5.1, Japanese version of Siri, and third generation Apple TV before the third generation iPad. Cook claims that this new product will be one of the major contributors to the rise of the "post-PC world" - a world where digital life will not be tied to PCs.
March 16, 2012, release includes eight countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, Singapore, UK and USA. March 23, 2012, releases include many European countries, Mexico and Macau. 20 April 2012, the release adds a dozen countries including South Korea and Malaysia. On April 27, 2012, the release added nine more countries, including India and South Africa. The May 2012 release adds 31 countries, including Brazil and Turkey.
On October 23, 2012, after the fourth generation iPad announcement, the third-generation iPad was discontinued. In response to criticism from its owner, the policy of return from the Apple Store was briefly extended to thirty days to allow customers to exchange third-generation models for fourth-generation models.

Features
Software
The third generation iPad ships with iOS 5.1, released on March 7, 2012. It can act as a hotspot with multiple operators, share its internet connection via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB, provided it's Wi-Fi. Model Fi Cell. It can also access the App Store, a digital app distribution platform for iOS that is developed and maintained by Apple. This service allows users to browse and download apps from the iTunes Store developed with Xcode and the iOS SDK and published through Apple. From App Store, GarageBand, iMovie, iPhoto, and iWork app (Page, Keynote, and Number) are available.
The iPad comes with several pre-installed apps, including Safari, Mail, Photos, Videos, YouTube, Music, iTunes, App Store, Maps, Notes, Calendar, Game Center, Photo Booth, and Contacts. Like all iOS devices, iPad can sync content and other data with a Mac or PC using iTunes, though iOS 5 and later can be managed and backed up without a computer. Although this tablet is not designed to make phone calls over cellular networks, users can use a built-in headset or speakers and microphone and make phone calls over Wi-Fi or mobile using a VoIP app, such as Skype. This device has dictation, using the same voice recognition technology as the iPhone 4S. Users talk and what kind of iPad they say on the screen as long as the iPad is connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.
Third-generation devices have an optional iBooks app, featuring book and other ePub format content downloaded from iBookstore. Some major book publishers include Penguin Books, HarperCollins, Simon & amp; Schuster and Macmillan are committed to publishing books for the device. Despite being a direct competitor both Amazon Kindle and Barnes & amp; Noble Nook, Amazon.com and Barnes & amp; Noble offers e-reader app for iPad.
On September 19, 2012, iOS 6, which contains 200 new features, was released. The iOS 6 update includes new features like Apple Maps, which replaces Google-operated mapping apps, Facebook integration, and the ability to operate Siri on third-generation iPad.
The third-generation iPad is compatible with iOS 7, released in 2013. Despite complete support, some new features like AirDrop released to newer models are not supported. This is a similar support that is also given on the iPhone 4S.
iOS 8 is also supported by third-generation iPad. However, some features have been stripped down.
iOS 9 supports third generation iPad as well. This is the fifth major iOS release supported by this model. The iOS 9 public beta is also compatible with it. This model has been supported for over 3 years.
iOS 9.3.5 is the latest and last version to support the iPad 3rd Generation.
Jailbreaking
The researchers pointed out within hours of product release that the third-generation iPad can be "jailbreaked" to use apps and programs not authorized by Apple. The third-generation iPad can be jailbroken with Redsn0w 0.9.12 or Absinthe 2.0. Jailbreaking violates the manufacturer's warranty. One of the main reasons for doing a jailbreak is to expand the feature set that is limited by Apple and its App Store. Most jailbreak tools automatically install Cydia, the original iOS APT client used to find and install software for jailbreak iOS devices. Many apps that are not approved by Apple are extensions and customizations for iOS and other apps. Users install these programs to personalize and customize the interface, add desired features and fix interruptions, and simplify application development by providing access to the filesystem and command line tools. However, Apple often patches exploits used by jailbreaking teams with iOS updates. This is why the 3rd generation iPad can not always be jailbreaked.
Hardware
This device has Apple A5X SoC with 1-GHz dual-core 32-bit Cortex-A9 CPU and quad-core PowerVR SGX543MP4 GPU; 1 GB of RAM; 5 megapixel rear camera capable of recording 1080p video; and a front-facing VGA camera designed for FaceTime. The screen resolution is 2,048 x 1,536 (QXGA) with 3.1 million pixels - four times more than the iPad 2 - even providing scales from previous models. The new iPad is thicker than its predecessor by 0.6 mm and heavier with 51 grams for the Wi-Fi model (652 grams). The Wi-Fi Cellular model (both at 662 grams) is 49 grams heavier for the AT & amp; T and 55 grams heavier for the Verizon model compared to each of the iPad 2 3G models (AT & amp; T 3G iPad 2 is 613 grams, and Verizon 3G iPad 2 is 607 grams).
There are four physical switches on the third-generation iPad, including the home button near the screen that returns the user to the main screen, and three plastic switches on the sides: wake/sleep and volume up/down , plus software-controlled switches whose functionality varies with software updates. The screen responds to another sensor: ambient light sensor to adjust the screen brightness and 3-axis accelerometer to sense orientation and toggle between portrait and landscape modes. Unlike iPhone and iPod Touch built-in apps, which work in three orientations (portrait, left-landscape and landscape-right), the built-in iPad app supports screen rotation in all four orientations, including upside-down. As a result, the device has no intrinsic "authentic" orientation; only the relative position of the changed home button.
These tablets are manufactured with or without the ability to communicate over cellular networks; all models can connect to wireless LAN. The third generation iPad optional has 16, 32, or 64Ã, GB internal flash memory, with no expansion options. Apple sells "camera connection equipment" with an SD card reader, but can only be used to transfer photos and videos.
The third generation iPad audio playback has a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Without third party software can play the following audio formats: HE-AAC, AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible format (2, 3, 4, AEA, AAX, and AAX), ALAC, AIFF, and WAV. Early third-generation iPad declines by IHS iSuppli show the possible cost for the 16GB Wi-Fi Cellular model at $ 358.30, 32 GB at $ 375.10, and 64 GB at $ 408.70 respectively.
This iPad uses a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer (LiPo) battery. The battery is made in Taiwan by Simplo Technology (60%) and Dynapack International Technology. The iPad is designed to be charged with a 2 amp high current using a 10W USB power adapter and a USB cable with a USB connector on one end and a 30-pin dock connector on the other. While it can be charged by older USB ports from the computer, this is limited to 500 milliamps (0.5 amps). As a result, if iPad is used when powered by a computer, iPad might fill up very slowly, or not at all. The high-powered USB port found in computers and newer accessories provides full charging capability.
Apple claims that the battery can provide up to 10 hours of video, 140-hours of audio playback, or one month of standby; people say the battery lasts about 8 hours doing the normal task. Like other rechargeable batteries, iPad batteries lose capacity over time. However, iPad battery can not be replaced by the user. In a program similar to the iPod and iPhone battery replacement program, Apple promised to replace iPads that have no electric charge with an updated unit at a cost of US $ 99 plus $ 6.95. User data is not saved/transferred. The updated unit comes with a new casing. Warranty on updated units may vary between jurisdictions.
Accessories
Smart Cover, introduced with the iPad 2, is a screen protector magnetically attached to the iPad's face. The cover has three folds allowing it to be converted into a cradle, also held together by a magnet. Smart Cover can also take another position by folding it. Although the original iPad owner can purchase a black casing that includes the same folding cover, the Smart Cover is simpler, easier to remove, and protects the screen only. Smart Covers have a microfiber pad cleansing the front of the iPad, and wakes the unit when the cover is removed. It comes in five colors both polyurethane and leather which is more expensive.
Apple offers several other accessories, most of which are adapters for the exclusive 30-pin dock connector, the only port in addition to the headphone jack. The dock holds the iPad upright at an angle, and has a dock connector and an audio line-out port. The iPad can use a Bluetooth keyboard that also works with Mac and PC. The iPad can be charged by a standalone power adapter ("charger") compatible with iPod and iPhone, and a 10-watt charger is included.
Reception
Critical reception
The third-generation iPad received many positive reviews, receiving praise for its Retina display, camera, processor, and LTE capabilities. According to Walt Mossberg of All Things Digital, the new model "has the most spectacular screen... seen on mobile devices" and holds the crown as "the best tablet on the planet." Jonathan Spira, who writes on Frequent Business Traveler, claims that it "seems to make things sharper and clearer."
Problems
Mobile Problems
Critics are following news that in markets outside the US, tablets can not communicate with LTE because of the use of 700 MHz and 700/2.100 MHz frequencies, respectively, versus 800 MHz, 1.8 GHz and 2.6 GHz are used elsewhere. Immediately after the launch, the Australian Consumer Competition and Commission (ACCC) took Apple to court for violating four provisions of Australian consumer legislation. They allege that Apple's promotional tablet in Australia as a '4G Wi-Fi iPad' misleads customers, as its name suggests that it will work on the currently operating 4G Australian network. Apple responded by offering a full refund to all customers in Australia who purchased the Wi-Fi Mobile model (when previously called "Wi-Fi 4G") from iPad.
On April 20, 2012, Apple stated that the HSPA network in Australia is 4G, although its speed is slower than LTE. A month later, on June 21, 2012, Apple sued for A $ 2.25 million for false advertising in Australia. In its advertisement Apple claims that the new iPad is compatible with 4G LTE. However, it does not work with Telstra LTE mobile data network in Australia. Apple was fined A $ 2.25 million and ordered to pay A $ 300,000 in fees.
Apple agreed to remove all references to 4G (LTE) capabilities in advertising in the UK but in August have not done so. There is no widespread 4G (LTE) network in the UK at the time, and third-generation iPads are also not compatible with future 4G (LTE) networks when they roll-out there. The Advertising Standards Authority accepts consumer complaints about the issue. Apple offers to return customers who bought the device after being misled by advertising. The result of many complaints and lawsuits against Apple regarding the use of the 4G term in their advertisement prompted Apple to rename the "4G" service to "Mobile", with this change appearing on Apple's website on May 13, 2012.
Overheating
Many users report very high temperatures on unit casing, especially after running 3D games. If used when plugged in, the rear of the new iPad becomes 12 à ° F (6.7 à ° C) hotter than the iPad 2. The unplugged difference is 13 à ° F (7.2 à ° C). Thermal imaging tests reveal that the iPad can reach 116Ã, à ° F (47Ã, à ° C). At this temperature it feels warm to the touch but uncomfortable when held for a short time. In a follow-up report, Consumer Reports said they "do not believe the temperature we recorded in our new iPad test represents a security issue."
Performance
The claimed superiority of the A5X over the Tegra 3 processor is questioned around the time of launch by Nvidia's competitors; some benchmarks then confirms the benefits of the iPad in graphics performance, while other benchmarks show that Tegra 3 performs better in some areas.
Criticism
Consumer Reports gives the third-generation iPad the top rankings and recommendations, claiming that the tablets are "amazing," "very good," and "very fast," and that the 4G network, the Retina display, and the overall performance are positive attributes. They outline the quality of the display, stating that the third generation iPad is "the best we've ever seen." The new iPad view is a big enough increase to encourage Consumer Reports to rate "excellent," and consequently lower the look of other tablets (including iPad 2) from "excellent" to "very good." As with previous models (see the parent article on iPad), iOS's closed and exclusive nature attracts criticism, especially by digital rights advocates like the Electronic Frontier Foundation, computer engineers and Brewster Kahle activists, Internet-legal specialist Jonathan Zittrain and the Free Software Foundation protesting iPad's introductory events and have targeted iPads with their "Disability by Design" campaign.
After the release of iOS 6, the Swiss Federal Railway accused Apple of copying the trademark "iconic trains" clock in the "Clock" app available on all iPad models supporting iOS 6. On October 15, 2012, the Swiss Railway Company released a statement saying Apple agrees to pay the license fee to use the design of the watch.
Commercial revenue
Pre-ordering is very high for the third-generation iPad which is then ordered to quote the delivery time "two to three weeks" after the order is placed. Apple said that "the customer response to the new iPad has been out of the chart and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased." Although delivery is delayed, many users choose to buy iPad online rather than queue up at the Apple Store. Approximately 750 people waited outside the Apple Store Fifth Avenue in New York City for product launch. According to Apple's press release, three million units were sold in the first three days. The iPad is bought primarily by the demographics of younger men. Most buyers are "die-hard Apple fans" or have previously bought an iPad. The Apple retailer in Dayton, Ohio, claims that demand for the tablet is "chaotic" and claims that its launch "is significantly more significant than the launch of iPad 2." In Q2 2012, Apple will hit an all-time high, claiming 69.6 percent of the global tablet market.
