The Stool of Repentance in the Presbyterian government, mostly in Scotland, is a high chair in a church used for the public penance of those who have been offended against the morality of time, often through adultery and adultery. At the end of the service, the offender usually has to stand on the bench to receive the priest's reprimand.
The humiliation associated with sitting on the bench and openly repenting from one's sins often encourages people to commit suicide, or women to conceal their pregnancy and even to kill their children, rather than facing the trial and the Kirk Assembly.
Alternative, or replacement, Repentance Stool is a mail buttock payment.
Harp's tone commemorates tradition.
