Laird John Hamilton (born March 2, 1964) is a large American surfer surfer, inventor of surfing, and sport mode and occasional action mode. She is married to Gabrielle Reece, a professional volleyball player, television personality, and model. Hamilton and his family divide their time between homes in Maui, Hawaii, and Malibu, California.

Hamilton has a reputation for aggressiveness around other people his age. This hostility was partly due to Laird and his brother Lyon who were bigger than their classmates, and became white in their predominantly parts of Asia and Hawaii. The role of outsiders greatly affected Laird to his adolescence and early adulthood. He became accustomed to this role and was uncomfortable to be in any center. He is also known for his physical and mental toughness. Young Laird is featured in an early video recording that jumps off a 60-foot cliff into deep water at the age of 7 years.
Modeling
When 16, Hamilton left the eleventh class at Kapaa High School to pursue a modeling career and work in construction. At 17, Hamilton was found on the beach at Kaua ? i by a photographer from Italy's Vogue Men's L'Uomo Vogue magazine that landed a modeling contract and then a 1983 photo shoot with actress Brooke Shields. Hamilton continues to take action shooting sports models of men who do occasionally.
In 2008, Hamilton announced his own "Wonderwall" line with affordable clothing, sold through Steve & amp; Barry until the retailer closed at the end of January 2009. He has been awarded a long-term sponsor of the French oxbow beachwear company.

Surfing career
1980s
At the age of 17, Hamilton has been a great surfer and could have left the modeling to pursue a career in the World Championship Tour surfing. 1990s
The initial effort in media recognition was his quest to become the first surfer to complete a 360-degree spin while being tied to the board. The effort was recorded in the 1990 skiing movie Greg Stump, Groove - Requiem in Ski Key . In the early 1990s, Hamilton, along with a small group of friends jointly dubbed "Strapped Crew" as their feet were tied to their boards, pushing the boundaries of surfing in Jaws, intersecting off the north central coast of Maui. The Strapped Crew overcomes the larger wave that displays the action. The action includes: launching a 30 foot (9.1 m) jump on the display board, then mating the board to the paraglider to experiment with some early kiteboards.
At the end of 1992, Hamilton with two close friends, the big waves Darrick Doerner and Buzzy Kerbox (also an occasional fashion model, Hamilton and Kerbox then lost their friendship over property strife), began using rubber boats to pull each other into waves too big to be caught under the power of a paddle only. This innovation is recorded in the documentary film, Riding Giants . This technique will later be modified to use personal crafts and become a popular innovation. Tow-in surfing, as it is known, encourages confinement and the possibility of surfing large waves to a new level. He then drifted for hours before being rescued by the Coast Guard of Maui Island. Hamilton commutes daily to the closed set between Maui and the Big Island with jet skis.
In 1995 Hamilton met a professional women's volleyball player and New York fashion model Gabrielle Reece in Los Angeles, California after a television interview. They then married on November 30, 1997. In 1996, People magazine named Hamilton as one of the 50 Prettiest People in the World, and in the same year Hamilton pushed and took from his future wife a correspondent position for the syndicated cable series' The Extremists. In 1989, Reece was named by Elle magazine as one of the Five Most Beautiful Women in the World.
In the late 1990s, Hamilton continued with wind surfing, water skiing and kite surfing. In 1996, Hamilton and Manu Bertin were instrumental in demonstrating and popularizing kites off the coast of Hawaii on Maui. In 1999 Hamilton sailed with winds between the Hawaiian archipelago on Oahu and Kaua ? i, about fifty miles away, in just under six hours.
Hamilton also experimented with foilboard, an innovative surfboard that incorporates hydrofoil technology that allows a higher level of precision and effectiveness of higher air techniques in the water. He has been a supporter of Surfing Paddle Stand, an ancient Hawaiian technique that requires longboards and long-handled oars, as well as considerable skill, strength, and dexterity. The purist surfers have blown it up for this, but Hamilton calls it a return to traditional Hawaiian surfing, as did King Kamehameha I and his queen Ka ? ahumanu nearly three hundred years ago.
Drive in Teahupo ? o Reef
Hamilton's drop to Tahiti's Teahupo ? o rest on the morning of August 17, 2000 is steadily placing it in recorded history of surfing. Teahupo ? o is a very dangerous shallow coral reef that devastates southeast Pacific Island of Tahiti.
On that day, with a wave of the ocean larger than normal, Darrick Doerner drove the boat, crashing into Hamilton. Pulling and releasing the rope crane, Hamilton slid into the vortex of the great wavelength tunnel, in full view of the camera-based photographer and boat photographer. With his distinctive artistic talent, Hamilton continues to carve water, reappearing over the shoulders of the waves. An extant photo of him riding the waves made the cover of the Surfer magazine, titled: "oh my god..." The wave was known as "the heaviest ever ridden".
In the movie coverage of this show in the movie Riding Giants, Doerner said, "I pulled it to the waves and it's the point where I almost said 'Do not miss the rope,' and when I look back he goes. "

2000s
On December 3, 2007, when Brett Lickle pulled Hamilton into a wave on the northern shore of Maui, called "Egypt", the waves knocked Lickle off the boat. The fins cut Lickle, causing him to bleed into the sea, which he feared would attract sharks. Hamilton swam to restore the boat, found Lickle in the waves, matched his swimsuit to the tourniquet fabric, and applied it to Lickle to save his life. Hamilton then drove the boat back to the landing, where Lickle was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Brett remembered that day for Chris Dixon that Brett pulled Laird into a wave he thought was "better than 10 floors" and the biggest wave ever ridden. That means more than 100 feet. In February 2008, Hamilton joined the board of directors of H2O Audio, a water sports company in San Diego California. He has been using H2O Audio products on many long-distance pedaling before joining the company. On August 27, 2014, Hamilton again made headlines for riding waves and boards that some others dared. Hurricane Marie caused Southern California to be hit by big waves - triples waves (and larger waves) can be found from San Diego to Los Angeles, including Laird's house break in Malibu. Sports Illustrated describes Hamilton and Reece as part of "Malibu Mob", a group of celebrities in the same tone as the Brat Pack. Hamilton is not related to fellow American surfers, Bethany Hamilton.

Hamilton was the central figure in the 2004 Riding Giants documentary about surfing giant waves; and the opening sequence of the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day , as a great wave surfing wave Pierce Brosnan (shared with Dave Kalama). He appeared in Waterworld, as Kevin Costner's successor in many water scenes.
