standing person is a stand-alone screen that promotes movies, products, or events. They are usually made of foam boards, and can range from large stand-alone posters to outlining three-dimensional screen devices with moving parts and lights.
Standees are usually displayed in the theater lobbies or music stores before the release of a movie or music.
In the movie business, the more bookings made by the cinema for a particular movie, the more likely it is to put the person standing in the lobby out of self-interest to spur consumer interest in the upcoming screen offer. Standees are also called lobby stands in the film industry. In recent years, theater has increasingly seen in-house advertising from non-film companies as a source of revenue, which creates occasional disagreements with movie distributors. When standing for Paramount Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life combines promotions for the 2003 film tie-in promotion with Jeep cars, the big theater circuit Regal Cinemas is looking for payments from Jeep for exposure in theaters. Paramount reportedly changed the ordering of 47 Regal theaters to other theaters who founded Tomb Raider /Jeep that stood without payment from Jeep.
Although previously only available in large quantities, recent advances in digital photography and print-on-demand technology have made it widely available to the public. Some companies now offer these items as party decorations, gift gags and warning items for the deceased. Standees can now be purchased as a one-time custom product, bringing them to the average consumer as well as large companies and venues.
