FedEx Corporation is an American multinational courier delivery company headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The name "FedEx" is a syllable abbreviation of the company's original air division name, Fed eral Ex press (now FedEx Express), used from 1973 to 2000 The company is known for its services overnight delivery and pioneering systems that can track packets and provide real-time updates in packet locations (to help locate missing packages), a feature that has now been adopted by most other carrier services.

FedEx Corporation is an import/export company, established October 2, 1997, in Delaware. FDX Corporation was established in January 1998 with the acquisition of Caliber System Inc. by Federal Express. With Caliber purchases, FedEx began offering services other than express delivery. Caliber subsidiaries include RPS, small-scale landline services; Roberts Express, an accelerated delivery provider; Viking Freight, a local cargo carrier, less than the truckload serving the Western United States; Caribbean Transportation Service, air delivery provider between the United States and the Caribbean; and Caliber Logistics and Caliber Technology, a provider of logistics and technology solutions. In the 1990s, FedEx Ground planned, but later abandoned, a joint service with British Airways to have BA fly a Concorde jet supersonic jet to Shannon, Ireland with a FedEx package on board, and then FedEx would fly subsonic packets to point- their delivery point in Europe. In January 2000, FDX Corporation changed its name to FedEx Corporation and re-branded all its subsidiaries. FedEx Corp. acquired Kinko, Inc. privately owned in February 2004 and replaced it with FedEx Kinko. This acquisition is conducted to expand FedEx retail access to the general public.
