Player movement
The 2014 league year begins at 4 pm EST on March 11, which marks the commencement of a league free agent period. Salary per-member salaries are set at 133 million US dollars, an increase of $ 10 million from a year earlier. The so-called "legal disorder" of the period in which the time agent representing the agent-free candidate (though not the player himself) is allowed to have contact with the team's representatives with the objective of determining the player's market value and to start contract negotiations, starting at noon (EST) on March 8th.
Free agent
A total of 471 players qualified for some form of free agent at the beginning of the free agent period. In addition, a number of high-paid players were released after the start of the league year to allow their teams to regain space under the salary cap. Among the top players who turn the team through free agents are cornerbacks Darrelle Revis (leaving Buccaneers, joining the Patriots), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (from Broncos to Giants), Aqib Talib (from Patriots to Broncos) and Alterraun Verner (from Titans to Buccaneers); safeties Jairus Byrd (from Bills to Saints) and T. J. Ward (from Browns to Broncos); defensive ends DeMarcus Ware (from Cowboys to Broncos), Lamarr Houston (from Raiders to Bears), Willie Young (from Lions to Bears) and Michael Johnson (from Bengals to Buccaneers); offensive attacks Jared Veldheer (from Raiders to Cardinals) and Branden Albert (from Chiefs to Dolphins); defensive handling Jason Hatcher (from Cowboys to Redskins); wide receivers of DeSean Jackson (Eagles to Redskins), Golden Tate (Seahawks to Lions), Steve Smith (Panthers for Ravens), and Eric Decker (from Broncos to Jets); and linebacker Karlos Dansby (from Cardinals to Browns).
Four players are labeled non-exclusive franchises by their team, which ensures that the team will receive compensation is a player to sign a contract with another team. This defensive final player is Greg Hardy (Panthers), tight end Jimmy Graham (Saints), Nick Folk (Jets) placekicker and midfielder Brian Orakpo (Redskins). Two other teams use transition tags, which offer players current team opportunities to match offers from other franchises as well as ensure compensation for selected drafts (at a lower level than franchise tags) if marked players sign marks elsewhere. Transitionally tagged players are Jason Worilds (Steelers) and Alex Mack (Browns). Mack signed a five-year, $ 42 million offer with Jacksonville Jaguars which included $ 26 million in bail and player options to cancel the contract after two seasons. The Browns matched that offer and maintained Mack as the league's highest payment center.
A limited free agency team is activated in 2014: wide receiver Andrew Hawkins of Bengals signed by Browns. The restricted free agent is a player with three or fewer seasons in a league whose contract has expired. Teams can bid on a contract that allows them to match offers from other teams (ie the players team currently gets "first rejection rights") and can trigger compensation select draft to be received from the signing team. Hawkins is tendered to a minimum, which means Bengals will not receive a compensation draft. The Browns traded for $ 13.6 million, a four-year offer, which Bengals rejected. Saints Safety Rafael Bush signed an offer from Falcons, but the Saints defended Bush by matching the offer.
Draft
NFL Draft 2014 held May 8-10, 2014, in New York City. The draft process begins with the NFL Scouting Combine, in which qualified players are evaluated by team personnel, held in Indianapolis on 19-25 February. The draft includes a record number of 98 non-seniors. The event was delayed by about two weeks compared to its traditional position on the NFL calendar in late April due to scheduling conflicts at Radio City Music Hall, which has been the draft spot since 2006. In the design, Houston Texans made the final defensive University of South Carolina, now outside of midfielders Jadeveon Clowney first overall selection.
There are discussions leading to a draft for the future of events in New York City, where it has been held since 1965. Given the growing interest in the draft over the last decade, there is a belief that the event may have been too big. Radio City Music Hall, which is the venue for the last nine drafts. The possibility of extending the draft to four days is also being discussed. On October 2, 2014, the Auditorium Theater in Chicago was announced as the official website for the draft of the following year.

Preseason
The training camp for the 2014 season is held from late July to August. The team can start the training camp no earlier than 15 days before the team's first scheduled pre-season game.
Before the start of the regular season, each team plays four pre-season matches. The pre-season schedule starts with Pro Football Hall of Fame Game on Sunday night, August 3rd. The Hall of Fame game is a traditional part of the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend event celebrating the new Hall of Fame members. It was played at the Fawcett Stadium located adjacent to the Hall of Fame building in Canton, Ohio. The game, aired in the US on NBC, featured the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills, with the Giants winning 17-13. Continuing the trend of the recent scheduling team associated with the former player being inducted into the Hall, the 2014 class includes former defensive Giants Michael Strahan and former Bills wide receiver, Andre Reed. The others inducted into the Hall of Fame are linebacker Derrick Brooks, Ray Guy's punter, End Claude Humphrey defensive, Walter Jones offensive tackle, and defensive back Aeneas Williams. The 65-game preseason schedule is closed on Thursday, August 28, a week before the start of the regular season.
Regular season
The 2014 regular season features 256 matches played during the seventeen-week schedule that begins on Thursday night after Labor Day. Each of the 32 league teams plays a 16-match schedule with one week for each team scheduled between weeks four and twelve. The slate featured seventeen matches on Monday night including a doubleheader in the opening weekend of the season. There are seventeen matches played on Thursday, including the Kickoff National Football League match in prime time on 4 September and three matches on Thanksgiving Day. The schedule also includes two matches played on Saturday, December 20, in the sixteenth week of the season. The regular season ends with a full row of 16 games on Sunday, December 28, all of which, as of 2010, is an inter-division match.
- Scheduling formula
Based on the current NFL scheduling formula, each team plays each of the other three teams in their own division twice. In addition, the team played against the four teams in one other division of each conference. The last two matches on the team's timetable are against two teams in their own team conference in an unregulated team division to play that finishes the previous season in the same rank in their division (eg the team that finished first in the division the previous season will play each other team in their first ever completed conference in their respective divisions). The division of pre-set divisions for 2014 is as follows:
Highlights of the 2014 schedule include:
- NFL Kickoff Game : The 2014 season begins on Thursday, September 4, 2014, with the reigning Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks defeating the Green Bay Packers 36-16. This is the first regular season meeting between teams since Seahawks won 14-12 at home in 2012 on top of controversial Hail Mary during the final game of the match under referee replacement.
- International Series : Three matches played at Wembley Stadium in London, England in 2014. Oakland Raiders lost to Miami Dolphins 38-14 on 28 September, Atlanta Falcons lost to Detroit Lions 22-21 at 26 October, and Jacksonville Jaguars lost to the Dallas Cowboys 31-17 on November 9, in the second appearance of four consecutive appearances for Jaguar in the International Series. CBS broadcast the Dolphins-Raiders game, while Fox broadcast the Cowboys-Jaguars and Lions-Falcons contests.
- Thanksgiving Day Games : The game was held on Thursday, November 27, 2014. The Detroit Lions hosted the Chicago Bears at 12:30. ET, and aired on CBS, while Dallas Cowboys hosted the Philadelphia Eagles at 4:30 am. ET (Dallas last hosted Philadelphia on Thanksgiving 25 years earlier in what is known as Bounty Bowl), and aired on Fox. The NBC prime-time game, featuring the San Francisco 49ers that hosted the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of the NFC Championship Game of the previous year, was shown at 8:30. ET. For the first time, no AFC team appeared on Thanksgiving Day.
On March 4, 2014, Biba Buffalo's official radio broadcast (WGR) confirmed that the Toronto Bills Series will not take place in 2014 and that the future of the series, which if not scheduled to run through the 2017 season, is yet to be certain. The series was officially discontinued on December 3, 2014.
Changes to flex scheduling
The NFL introduces two major changes to flexible scheduling procedures. Firstly, the league will be able to "cross-flex" the game between CBS and Fox, allowing CBS to broadcast the NFC game away (for the first time since 1993), and Fox to broadcast the AFC away game (for the first time since 2011, and all AFC games for the first time). The league can "cross-flex" some of these games before the start, or during, the season. The first game affected by this "cross-bending" change was the First Sunday contest between Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, which aired on Fox instead of CBS; all four Bills interconnection games (including their 5th Week match against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field) will be aired on Fox this year, and in the 6th week, the all-AFC game, again involving Bills (this time the game division competition against the New England Patriots) was transferred to Fox, exacerbating financial problems at CIG affiliates, Buffalo, WIVB-TV. An all-NFC match between the Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks was given to CBS. The Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears Thanksgiving games mentioned above were also given to CBS, not Fox.
On April 23, 2014, the league announced a second major change to a flexible scheduling procedure: the game can be bent into NBC time slot Sunday night as soon as week 5. NBC will be allowed to flex up to two matches between week 5 and 10, while the same rules apply for the rest of the season this.
Scheduling changes in season
The following games are moved by flexible scheduling, inclement weather, or for other reasons:
- Week 6 : Patriots-Bills game "folded cross" from CBS to Fox, while Bears-Falcons game is moved from 1:00 pm. at 4:25 pm ET (still on Fox).
- Week 8 : The Seahawks-Panthers game "folded cross" from Fox to CBS, while the Titanans-Titans game "folded cross" from CBS to Fox.
- Week 11 : The Viking-Bears game "folded cross" from Fox to CBS, while the Eagles-Packers game is moved from 1:00 pm. at 4:25 pm ET (still on Fox).
- Week 12 : The Jets-Bills game was moved from Sunday, November 23rd at 1:00 pm. ET to Ford Field in Detroit on Monday, November 24th at 7:00 pm ET due to a "Knife" snowstorm that hit the Buffalo area the previous week. This game is live locally on WCBS-TV and WIVB-TV, respectively, while the pre-scheduled Monday Night Football games between Ravens and Saints are shown on schedule.
- Week 14 : Colts-Browns game "folded cross" from CBS to Fox.
- Week 15 : The Bengals-Browns game is cross-flexed from CBS to Fox, while the Vikings-Lions game is moved from 1:00 pm. at 4:25 pm ET (still on Fox).

- Week 17 :
- The Bengals-Steelers game, originally scheduled for 1pm. ET on CBS, was selected as the final match of NBC Sunday Night Football .
- The Jaguars-Texans game, originally scheduled for 1pm. ET on CBS, is "cross-flexed" to Fox (keeping the same kickoff time).
- The Panthers-Falcons game, originally scheduled for 1pm. ET on Fox, is "cross-flexed" up to 4:25. ET on CBS.
- The Lions-Packers game, originally scheduled for 1pm. ET on Fox, moved to 4: 25 hours. ET (still in Fox).

The wild card round of the playoffs featured two wild card playoff games from each conference hosted by two of the winners of the lowest seeded division. The top two seeds in each conference all have first-round byes. The match was played on January 3-4, 2015. Indianapolis cruised to an easy 26-10 victory over Cincinnati, handing Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, his sixth playoff defeat without a win. In other AFC matches, Baltimore made a dominant defensive appearance over the violation of Pittsburgh's high fly, winning 30-17. At NFC, Carolina beat Arizona 27-16 while holding the Cardinals to 78 yards offensive net. Finally, in the much-talked game, Dallas beat Detroit 24-20 after its fourth-quarter comeback became easier after a controversial decision to overturn a so-called passing penalty offense against the Cowboys.
âââ ⬠<â â¬
Division play is played on 10-11 January 2015 with the winners of each game in the wild-card round visiting one of the top two seed teams at each conference. In the AFC, New England won a wild game against Baltimore, overcoming a 14-point deficit twice in the game to win 35-31. In Denver, the Broncos were actually played by Indianapolis in a 24-13 defeat. Denver coach John Fox withdrew from the Broncos organization after the game. In the NFC, defending champions Seattle easily beat Carolina 31-17, while Green Bay defended Dallas's 26-21 defeat after Aaron Rodgers's smart backback. Packer's victory was struck by more refereeing controversy when a Dallas quarter effort of acceptance by Dez Bryant in the Green Bay 1 yard line was ruled "not catch" after an official review.
Conference Championships
The conference championships are played on Sunday, January 18, 2015, with the NFC Championship Game at 3:00 pm Eastern Time at Fox and AFC Championship Match after 6:30 pm in Eastern CBS.
The NFC Championship, Seahawks, trailed 16-0 at half time and then 19-7 in less than three minutes in the game, led by Russell Wilson, who, despite throwing four interceptors, rallied the team to 15 unanswered points and won game on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse in overtime to become the first team to make a consecutive Super Bowl appearance since 2004 New England Patriots, and the first NFC team to make Super Bowl appearances consecutively since the 1997 Green Bay Packers. Their 16 first-half comeback points were the largest ever in a conference championship game, beating 15 points of deficit part-time by the Indianapolis Colts against the New England Patriots in 2006.
In the AFC Championship, New England blew the Colts with a score of 45-7, massively defeating them in total yards (397 to 209), first down (28 to 17), and time of possession (37:49 to 22:11) while also forcing three turnovers and scoring on their first four drives in the second half. New England was accused of deflating the game ball before the game, giving the title game 'Deflategate'. This is the most tilted AFC Championship victory since Buffalo Bills beat the Los Angeles Raiders 51-3 in the 1990 season.
Super Bowl XLIX
Super Bowl XLIX, the 49th Super Bowl contest, decided the 2014 NFL championship on February 1, 2015, with the New England Patriots defeating Seattle XLVIII Super Bowl winner Seahawks, who wants to repeat, with a score of 28- 24. With controversial drama calls by head coach Seattle, Pete Carroll, they decided to try passing the ball for a touchdown on the 1-yard line, the ball being intercepted by the novice cornloack of Malcolm Butler. Thus, New England sealed his victory. The match takes place at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It was broadcast in the US by NBC with a kickoff around 4:30 pm. MST.

Pro Bowl
The Pro Bowl is an all-star league game. On April 9, 2014, the NFL announced that the Pro Bowl 2015 will be played a week before the Super Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It was broadcast in the US by ESPN on Sunday, January 25, 2015. The unformatted draft format that debuted in 2014 Pro Bowl followed by two former players, Cris Carter and Michael Irvin, drew up their players from a list of selected options by the state. Cleveland Browns CB Joe Haden was named captain of one Pro Bowl roster with RB DeMarco Murray from Dallas on January 15. DE J.J. Watt of Houston and WR Antonio Brown of Pittsburgh are named opposite roster captains.
Important event
Some NFL related events that became headlines throughout 2014 include:
- Michael Sam becomes the first gay player openly compiled by the NFL
Michael Sam, an All-American defense midfielder from Missouri who was crowned Defender SEC of the Year in 2013, announced in February that he was gay. Sam was chosen by St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 2014 draft with a total of 249 options. He became the first non-enclosed homosexual selected in the NFL Draft and if he made the NFL list, he would be the first open gay player in the NFL.
Sam, Rams and the NFL were openly congratulated on Sam's election by US president Barack Obama who called Sam's election "an important step forward today in our Nation's journey." However, Sam stated after the draft that he felt he "had to go over three rounds easily" and there was speculation that an announcement about his sexuality caused him to fall in the draft. Sam is the first SEC Defensive Player of the Year to be unselected in the first round of the draft. On the other hand, Sam's performance in the NFL Scouting Combine is widely rated as "mediocre" and at least one design analyst assessed his chances of making the NFL listings just as "a little better than average."
ESPN shows Sam's reaction to being recruited which includes embracing and kissing celebrations with his partner. The security of the Miami Dolphins Don Jones tweeted the negative reaction to the display, which caused Dolphins to embarrass him and forbade him to participate in off-season teamwork until he underwent sensitivity training.
On August 30, Sam was cut by the Rams a few days before the regular season began. The league is taking action to sell other teams to Sam, hoping to avoid the "nightmare scenario" and making sure Sam stays on the league list, because Sam's presence in the NFL is something that "Roger Goodell and the NFL support and they want their team to support," according to various sources. On September 3, Dallas Cowboys added Sam to their training team; he was released from training on 21 October.
- Claim by NFL cheerleaders
During the offseason, the main headlines are many current and former cheerleaders filing suit against their respective NFL teams for unfair labor practices. Members of Buffalo Jills, Cincinnati Ben-Gals, Flight Crew Jets, Oakland Raiderettes, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders all filed lawsuits against their respective teams (or, in the case of Jills, the non-profit organization running Jills) for violating state laws their respective parts for labor practices, states that they are required to meet certain performance standards in both weight and make-up (at the expense of cheerleaders) and follow unpaid compulsory practices, while paid very little for each game, and in some case, only receive payment at once after season. A lawsuit by Raiderette, who had a young child at home and was encouraged by her husband to initiate a lawsuit, was adjudged as a seasonal job in federal court and thus not subject to minimum wage laws but was pending in California state courts and law. tougher labor laws. The most controversial is Jills "Jiggle Test" which became common knowledge. Jills suspended operations indefinitely in response to the lawsuit. It has been speculated that all NFL teams might lower their cheerleaders in response to lawsuits rather than pay their troops properly despite having the financial means to do so, although Cleveland Browns is considering adding cheerleaders to the team.
- Washington Redskins names controversy
On June 18, 2014, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, in a 2-1 decision, revoked some trademark protection from Washington Redskins, stating that the use of the team name "Redskins" was an ethnic slur. The Redskins do not need to change their name. However, if the decision is upheld on appeal (the team intends to appeal and does not intend to change the team's name), they will not be able to prevent counterfeiters from making certain Redskins clothing.
With Minnesota Vikings playing their first of two consecutive seasons at the University of Minnesota TCF Bank Stadium (see below), the university has asked Vikings to keep the Washington team's name from being used in prints or spoken by game announcers at the stadium. The college has also requested that the Redskins wear their setback jersey with no name and team logo when they visit Viking on November 2nd. University officials say that the use of the Redskins name in their stadium violates the affirmative action, diversity and equal opportunity of the institution. Policy. Lester Bagley, executive vice president of Viking public affairs, said that the team is still deciding how to handle college demand.
- The Broncos owner, Pat Bowlen releases team control
On July 23, Pat Bowlen, owner of the Denver Broncos since 1984, relinquished team control for his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Bowlen has personally fought against the disease since 2009 after suffering short-term memory loss, and has since reduced his role with the team, resulting in team president Joe Ellis and executive vice president/general manager John Elway making team decisions. Ellis and Elway will now be in full control of the team, although Bowlen's long-term plan is for one of his seven sons to run the team in the future, preventing the Broncos from being sold.
Discipline for off-the-scene incidents
- The Colts owner, Jim Irsay is guilty of OWI; suspend 6 games
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested on March 16 near his home in Carmel, Indiana, on suspicion of driving under influence (DUI) after failing a field test. Irsay's vehicle search revealed "lots of pill bottles" and nearly $ 30,000 in cash. The initial allegations of DUI and four counts of controlled substance ownership were filed against Irsay, who was jailed overnight. Irsay enters the rehabilitation facility as soon as he is released from prison. Irsay has been undergoing treatment for a prescription drug addiction earlier in the early 2000s. Irsay returned to the Colts just before the draft in May.
In late May, Irsay was charged with two minor offenses in the incident: operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance inside the body. Prosecutors allege Irsay is under the influence of oxycodone or hydrocodone, both of which are prescribed narcotic opioid pain medication.
Irsay pleaded guilty on September 2 to a count of drunk vehicle operations (OWI), which is a C class crime in Indiana. He was sentenced to one year of probation in which he was prohibited from consuming or possessing alcohol and his privileges revoked for a period of one year and 40 days. She will be subjected to random drug testing as a condition of her probation. In addition, the judge determined that any subsequent OWI fees within a five year period would be considered a crime. The NFL forbade Irsay from any contact with his team for six games and also imposed a fine of $ 500,000. He is also prohibited from conducting media interviews or making comments related to teams in social media during suspension. It is hoped that Irsay's daughter, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, will take over the team's control during her absence.
- Ray Rice domestic violence suspension
On February 15, 2014, the Baltimore Ravens ran back Ray Rice and his fiancé Janay Palmer were both arrested for attacks after a physical squabble that occurred at Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The celebrity news site TMZ posted a video of Rice dragging Palmer's body out of the elevator in the casino. The Ravens issued a statement after TMZ's release of the video, calling domestic violence Rice catch "serious problems."
On March 27, 2014, the jury charged Rice for alleged aggravated incursions that could carry a prison sentence of three to five years in jail and a fine of up to $ 15,000. The allegations against Palmer were dropped. Rice and Palmer got married the day after the indictment. Rice pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree incursions that were aggravated and accepted in a pre-trial intervention program for first offenders on May 20. Under the terms of the defense agreement, the allegations will be dropped and removed from Rice's records if she meets the conditions imposed by the judge for the next 12 months.
Rice suspended by the NFL for the first two games of the 2014 NFL season on 25 July. On September 8th, TMZ released a recording of a camera inside the elevator where the attack took place. The video appears to show Palmer's Pal punching in the face causing Palmer to fall immediately to the ground, possibly hitting his head in the elevator handle on the path to the floor, and letting him not move. Within hours of the video release, Baltimore Ravens broke Rice's contract. Shortly after, Goodell announced that Rice had been suspended from the league indefinitely.
Rice, along with the guild union, appealed for unlimited suspension on the grounds that a player can not be disciplined twice for the same incident. The union requested that Goodell resign from listening to the appeal (since he was usually under the league's personal conduct policy) because he would be a witness in the hearing.
In late November, Rice was restored. It was reported that four teams are trying to get rice for the 2015 season. Two of the teams have been identified as New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.
- New policy on domestic violence instituted by the league
As a result of widespread criticism of the two-game suspension imposed in Ray Rice's case, which is considered too light by many commentators, the NFL announced a new policy on dealing with domestic violence on 28 August. Under the first new policy violations domestic violence will be punished with a minimum of six games without pay; a second offense would result in a "lifetime" ban from the league. These rules will apply to all league personnel, including executives and owners, not just players. A person who accepts a "lifetime" ban will be eligible to petition to the league for recovery after one year. Penalties for first offenses can be increased by a number of factors including previous incidents before joining the league, weapons use, actions taken against pregnant women and the presence of a child.
- Reaction to the new domestic violence policy
According to an Associated Press article on ESPN, the players union has questioned why the NFL's domestic violence training and education program "treats all players as perpetrators." In a memo sent to members of the NFL Player Association on Thursday by Executive Director DeMaurice Smith and obtained Friday by the Associated Press, the union also said the plan, "does not build a positive consensus on warning signs." Smith and Teri Patterson's special advisory union described two meetings this month with a league in which an NFLPA commission was briefed on a league approach to educate NFL players, coaches, executives, owners and personnel about domestic violence. He wrote that "a good picture of domestic violence, sexual violence and child abuse" is presented. But "it does not address the issue of greater violence inside and outside the home."
The NFL says of the "perpetrator" claim: "Nothing could be further from the truth. The presentation firmly acknowledges that people in the NFL are often slandered and that the actions of some damage the reputation of many people." "What the program teaches is that everyone can and should be part of the solution," the league statement said. The union memo also said "NFL presentations do not focus on follow-up and provide sustainable resources at the club to address potentially violent situations and prevent them." The NFL's education program was shown to the AP on October 7, and it included information from memos sent to 32 clubs on Sept. 18 that shows local resources available to all team personnel and their families. The document shows there are plans to provide resources and follow-up for those who need them. The union memo to the players also said the NFL presentation "does not include any psychological information about the type of behavior that could lead to violent actions or warning signs of negative behavior, but seems to focus almost entirely on what happens after a violent incident has been committed."
The league plan calls for experts working in the psychological space to offer a research perspective on societal issues, recognizing that this is an intimate crime that affects people in many ways. The program asks every club to have experts available to the team, or what the NFL calls "the entire club family." That could include a doctor, human resources worker, player involvement executives, security personnel and a mental health professional working with the club. United added that although the league indicates that trainers for this educational program will become experts, the NFL does not include the relevant names, titles or backgrounds of the people they want to use for the training. Previously, the NFL announced an advisory group that included authorities in areas of domestic violence such as Tony Porter, Beth E. Richie, Rita Smith, Jane Randel and Lisa Friel. Other NFLPA observations are: "Too much dependence is placed on the use of former players to participate in training, while one former player has the proper qualifications and experience to train personnel on this issue, the league's inability to articulate who this player raises concerns that question the effectiveness of the training. "Many ambassadors, as the NFL calls it, have personal testimony about these issues and may be helpful, but they will not provide educational programs. The union added: "The League states that at each presentation, they will distribute information on local resources (special city/country teams) recommended for domestic violence and sexual violence prevention specialists, licensed mental health clubs, club personnel and director of Player Involvement.
Members of the NFLPA commission recommend that broader resource nets should be included, such as religious-based counselors and community-focused male organizations, etc. The NFL does not provide an explanation of why one source is selected over another or how the resource will be selected. specifically integrated into the workplace, if at all. "In response to the union memo, the NFL said:" We are happy to meet unions and work to include their advice into the presentation is the beginning of the education process. which will continue in the coming years. "
- Adrian Peterson tortures captured and benched children
Minnesota Viking back Adrian Peterson was indicted by Grand Jury Houston on charges of injury to a child on 12 September. The demand comes from beatings with tree branches, or switches, which Peterson alleges are given to his 4-year-old. old son as a measure of discipline. Peterson gave himself up to be arrested following the indictment.
Viking announced after the arrest that Peterson would be disabled and would not play in a team match that weekend. The following Monday the team announced that Peterson would be allowed to rejoin the team. The team reversed two days later and put Peterson on the inactive list pending a resolution on the allegations.
- Greg Hardy was found guilty of domestic violence; placed on leave
Carolina defensive panthers Greg Hardy was arrested on allegations of domestic violence after a fight with his girlfriend that took place on 13 May. In July, Hardy was found guilty of attacking women's threats and communicating and sentenced to 18 months probation in court before a district judge. Hardy immediately asked the court by a jury under the North Carolina legal system that the penalty provisions were postponed pending the jury trial.
Since legal proceedings have not yet been played, Hardy is not disciplined directly by either the league or the Panthers and he is allowed to play in the team's first game. However, after protests around Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson's situation, Hardy was not activated for the second Panther match and then placed on the inactive list until the indictment was decided. Hardy continues to get paid, but is not allowed to connect with the Panthers organization.
Noteworthy deaths
William Clay Ford
William Clay Ford, Sr., owner of the Detroit Lions, died March 9, two weeks before his 89th birthday. Ford bought the Lions in 1963 and has been president of the team since 1961; at the time of his death, he is the second longest woven owner in the NFL, behind only the Buffalo Bills owner, Ralph Wilson. The team won just one playoff win (in 1991) under Ford ownership.
The ownership of the team was handed over to his widow, former Martha Firestone. Four Ford children, including team deputy chairman William Clay Ford, Jr., were also involved in running the team.
Ralph Wilson
Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson died at the age of 95 on March 25. He is the founder of the founding franchise, which began in 1960 in the American Football League (AFL). Wilson played a central role in the negotiations between the AFL and the NFL which eventually led to the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. He is the last remaining NFL owner among the Foolish Club, as eight original AFL owners were named. Wilson was inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009. Incidentally, both Wilson and Lions owners William Clay Ford, Sr. died at their respective homes in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, within three weeks of each other.
The ownership of the bill was passed to a trust headed by Wilson's widow, former Mary McLean, and controlled by him and three other team officials. Trust made the team sell as soon as Wilson died. The bidders for the team include the king of payment processing processing Tom Golisano, natural gas tycoon Terrence Pegula, real estate mogul Donald Trump, a consortium including former midfielder Bill Kelly and bond manager Jeffrey Gundlach, and consortium Jon Bon Jovi and schoolmaster Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. Although the economy is poor and attendance declines, the team is not in immediate danger of relocation, largely because of the tight stadium rents signed during Wilson's lifetime which effectively prevented teams leaving until after the 2019 season and because the Los Angeles-based potential has intimidated to buy the team. The Kelly/Gundlach and Golisano groups step aside when Pegulas offered to buy the team, while Trump, acknowledged not bidding as many other bidders, did not support a dirty campaign against Bon Jovi/MLSE's bid, run by Michael R. Caputo's political operations, without focusing opposition on Pegulas. The team was eventually sold to Pegula at a reported price of 1.4 billion dollars.
In honor of Wilson, Bills wear patches inscribed with initials on their shirts throughout the 2014 season.
Malcolm Glazer
The owner of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Malcolm Glazer, died at the age of 85 on 28 May. Glazer has had Buccaneers since 1995, a period that basically covers half of the team's history. Price $ 192 million The paid glazer sets a record at the time for the price of a sports franchise. The franchise was a mess when Glazer bought it after the death of founder Hugh Culverhouse. Bucs have made the playoffs only three times in their 19 years under Culverhouse, while in 19 seasons since Glazer took over, they made seven playoffs, including the Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002.
Glazer Widow, Linda Glazer, and six Glazer children will continue to own and operate the team.
Chuck Noll
Former Pittsburgh Steelers chief coach Chuck Noll died at the age of 82 on 13 June. Noll is widely credited with building the Steelers dynasty in the 1970s. He coached the team to four Super Bowl wins. When he was employed in 1969, the Steelers have never won a single title in nearly 40 years. He coached several Hall of Fame players including: Terry Bradshaw, "Mean" Joe Greene, Mike Webster, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, and Franco Harris. Noll is a member of Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Earl Morrall
Earl Morrall died on April 25 at the age of 79. He has an NFL career for 21 years and became an important member of the 1972 Miami Dolphins team which is the only NFL team ever to finish a perfect season. Morrall is the second player to be selected in the 1956 NFL Draft and continues playing for six different NFL teams. He was named MVP league in 1968 when he led the Baltimore Colts to a 13-1 record and the Super Bowl after replacing injured Johnny Unitas. After joining the Dolphins in 1972, Morrall again proved to be a valuable reserve, replacing Bob Griese who suffered an ankle fracture in the fifth game of the immaculate dolphin season. Morrall started the last game of nine regular-season games, before giving way to a Griese player who was healed during the 1972-73 playoff of NFL. Morrall was named Player of the Year by Pro Football Weekly for his contribution in 1972.

Possible franchise relocation
- Buffalo Bills
In July 2014 it was reported that Jon Bon Jovi and head of the Maple Leaf Sports & amp; Entertainment (a consortium between Toronto Edge Roger III and Edry Rogers III) has joined as the same partner to bid on Buffalo Bills, with Bon Jovi as the owner of the proposed controller. It was also reported that the group had conducted a feasibility study in early 2013 about the construction of the NFL stadium in Toronto. Following protests by Buffalo region fans against the Toronto group, including the Bon Jovi radio station, Bon Jovi wrote an open letter to Bills fans saying that the group's goal was to "make Bills successful in Buffalo" and commit to working with all levels. government "to identify the best sites in the Buffalo area for the new stadium", although it certainly does not promise to keep the team in Buffalo. The group claims it plans to meet with developers in the Buffalo area to discuss the construction of the new stadium. However, there is widespread skepticism about the seriousness of the group's pledge to keep the team in Buffalo, with a sports relocation expert saying that if they intend to move the club, "I would advise never to say it publicly" because of the legal implications of selling teams to planning groups for relocate it.
The Toronto group is one of four known to have made an initial bid for the franchise. Other groups, who intend to keep the club in Buffalo, are: the eventual winner Terrence Pegula, owner of Buffalo Sabers; Donald Trump, who previously owned the General-General of New Jersey; and Tom Golisano, the former owner of Buffalo Sabers. Trump describes his chances of becoming a successful bidder as "very, very unlikely because I will not do anything really stupid." Other Canadians who explore team purchases include John Bitove, who is one of the founders of the Toronto Raptors, and the family of Francesco Aquilini, who owns Vancouver Canucks, though it is unknown if they want to move the team. Although Tanenbaum and Rogers have significant fortunes, it has been reported that the Toronto group's offer is limited by Bon Jovi's resources and his desire to become a controlling partner; The NFL rules require that the controlling partner owns a 30% equity stake. Los Angeles-based interest mostly stays away from the bill, citing concerns over stadium leases and fears that politicians will put intense scrutiny on everyone trying to move Bills out of Buffalo; multibillionaire Eli Broad refused to bid on the team for that reason.
The sale was completed on Sept. 9, to Pegulas with a reported amount of 1.4 billion dollars that made the most expensive buying bill in league history. The sale was made in time for Pegulas to be unanimously approved at the NFL owner's meeting Oct. 6-8. Terry Pegula, owns Buffalo Sabers and a development project in the Buffalo area. The Pegulas intends to keep the team at Western New York for the long haul.
Each possible relocation has one of the other bidders wins (or if Pegula resells the team to anyone in the future) can not happen under the current Bills' rental terms at Ralph Wilson Stadium until the end of the 2019 season and will, at least on paper, needed league support (whether the league could, by itself, stop the relocation unclear: Al Davis moved the Oakland Raiders to Los Angeles in 1982 against the league's wish). And the cost of relocation, which has been speculated to be $ 100- $ 200 million, may be imposed by the NFL, although this can be offset by an increase in the value of franchises in larger markets. Goodell said two votes would be held separately. From owners who made their position known, Jerry Jones is believed to have supported the move to Toronto, while John Mara, Robert Wood Johnson IV, the Board of Directors of Green Bay Packers, and Shahid Khan indicated they would have the most possibility of opposing team move.
- Oakland Raiders
On July 29, 2014, reports emerged that Oakland Raiders were considering moving to San Antonio in 2015 after owner Mark Davis met with San Antonio community leaders the week before with the encouragement of former Cliff Raider Branch, which Davis was in town to visit. local ceremony for Branch. The Raiders themselves have admitted Davis was in San Antonio for a Branch event before news broke about the possibility of relocation but would not confirm or deny that Davis also mentioned being there discussing his team's move east. Among the two NFL teams in Texas, Texas Texas owner Bob McNair and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones - who last had San Antonio as part of his territorial rights and voiced support from the NFL team that moved there when the New Orleans Saints were temporary played in San Antonio in 2005 due to damage to the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina - both of whom support the NFL team playing in San Antonio.
Although San Antonio is a smaller market than the San Francisco Bay Area, Raiders will not share the market with other NFL teams, and will only compete with the NBA San Antonio Spurs among the major sports teams. In addition, Raiders will use Alamodome as a temporary home until a special NFL stadium can be built. Team rental at O.co Coliseum ends after 2014 season.
On September 3, 2014, the city of Oakland reached a tentative agreement to build a new football stadium in Oakland, which will result in the Coliseum being destroyed; Davis did not respond to the proposal, which would also force Oakland Athletics to build their own new stadium (which they had not yet agreed on), while Alameda County (co-owner of the current stadium) indicated they might not support his plan. Davis, meanwhile, continues to negotiate with San Antonio officials and has team officials searching for Alamodome to determine if it will be suitable for the NFL.
- St. Louis Rams
Rams and St. Louis CVC started negotiating to get Rams's home stadium, Edward Jones Dome into the top 25 percent of the league's stadium (that is, the top eight teams of thirty-two NFL teams referring to luxury boxes, facilities and overall fan experience). Under the terms of the lease agreement, St. Louis CVC was asked to make modifications to the Edward Jones Dome in 2005. However, later owners, Georgia Frontiere, waived the provision in exchange for cash that served as a punishment for city non-compliance. St. Louis, in subsequent years, made changes to the scoreboard and improved natural lighting by replacing panels with windows, although the whole remains dark. Small renovations totaling about $ 70 million do not carry the stadium in the specifications required in the lease agreement. On February 1, 2013, the Arbiter (3rd panel) chosen to lead the arbitration proceedings found that Edward Jones Dome was not above 25% of all NFL places as required under the terms of the lease agreement between Rams and CVC. The arbitrator (3 panels) further discovers that an estimated $ 700 million in renovations proposed by Rams is unreasonable given the terms of the lease agreement. Finally, St. Louis was ordered to pay the reported $ 2 million Rams lawyer fees.
Public, city, county and state officials declare no interest in granting further funding to Edward Jones Dome in the light of the entity, as well as taxpayers, continue to owe approximately $ 300 million more to the facility. Thus, if the resolution is not reached at the end of the 2014-2015 NFL season and St. Louis remained noncompliant to his obligations under the lease agreement, Rams would be free to cancel their rent and relocation.
On January 31, 2014, both the Los Angeles Times and Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Rams Stan Kroenke owner bought 60 hectares of land adjacent to the Forum in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California. That, with the most conservative estimates, of sufficient land in which the right stadium of the NFL can be built. The purchase price is rumored to range between US $ 90-100 million. Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that Mr. Kroenke told the league the purchase. As the owner of the NFL, any purchase of land where a potential stadium can be built should be disclosed to the league. This development has further fueled rumors that Rams intends to restore its management and soccer operations to Southern California. The land was originally targeted to Walmart Supercenter but Walmart was unable to obtain the necessary permits to build the center. Kroenke is married to Ann Walton Kroenke who is a member of the Walton family and much of the real estate offer of Kroenke has involved the Walmart property.
Rule changes
The following rule changes are validated for the 2014 NFL season at the owner's meeting on March 26, 2014:
- Removes the referee's time limit after the sack (before the hour does not stop for the sack just after the two minute notice).
- Simplify the place of defensive offense enforcement committed behind the line of soccer practice to uphold from a previous place, not at the end of a run or offense.
- Raise the goalhole height from 30 feet to 35 feet. The uprights have been 30 feet tall since the 1974 NFL season.
- Expand the limits on the roll-up block to include such blocks from the side and from the back.
- "dipping" the ball through the goalposts or crossbar (or any other way to use goalposts/crossbar as a buffer in touchdown celebration) is now considered unsportsmanlike (15 yards). This rule was in response to the strict New Orleans Saints ending Jimmy Graham's tendency to dip football after the score. One of Graham's dunk during the 12th Saints Day match against the Atlanta Falcons bends the goalpost so the game is delayed by a few minutes for the stadium crew to make improvements. In addition, changing the rules mentioned above to extend the goalposts will add extra weight, increasing the chances that it may collapse. This celebration was previously "grandfathered" as a law like Lambeau Leap.
- Expand replays to cover recovery of loose balls even if the game is blown off. This was in response to San Francisco 49ers defensive player NaVorro Bowman, who clearly recovered from loose ball and was overtaken by contact in the NFL playoffs 2013-14. The ball was given to Seattle Seahawks after Seahawks ran back Michael Robinson took it from Bowman after Bowman was forced to release the ball with a severe knee injury. Despite the irrefutable video evidence of the recovery by Bowman, the drama can not be reviewed.
- Connect a command center that is unveiled to a field-to-booth communication relay, allowing Referees to communicate with the command center during a replay review. This is a response to some controversial replay reviews during the 2013 season, as well as league officials observing the NHL command center. Unlike the NHL replay system, however, the NFL referees will still make the final decision rather than the command center.
- Make a field outburst and the use of racial/sexual disgrace imposed a penalty of unsportsmanlike behavior (15 yards).
The League has also instructed game officials to strictly enforce passage interference, defend positions, and illegal contacts.
The proposal to move the line of soccer practice at an extra point, trying from the 2-yard line to the 25-yard line to increase their difficulty (trying to 43-yard compared with the easier 20 meter that can be traced) was submitted (like a counterproposal from Cincinnati Bengals to move it to the 1-yard line, to encourage more two-point conversions), but the owner approves the experiment of kicking the extra points snapping from the 20-yard line for the first two weeks of the pre-season. 94.3% of PAT was made during the two-week trial, compared to a 99.6% success rate over the past season.
New by-products
As part of a league deal with Microsoft, the coach will be equipped with Surface tablets to deliver drama drawings taken from the top of the stadium to the sideline, eliminating traditional practices using printed photos and notebooks.
Seven NFL game officials will be using radio headsets to communicate with each other during the game, similar to the systems used by referees at the FIFA World Cup and other higher levels of football associations. With this technology, officials do not have to move around the field to talk to each other, saving time.
Expanded training squad
League and union players agreed in August for some changes to the rules of the rehearsal squads. Under the new rules, each team will be able to bring up to 10 players in their training squad, up from eight. Practicing the feasibility of the squad is also expanded by increasing the number of games in the season the player must be in the squad for the season to be counted as one of the three player-fit seasons from three games to six matches. Finally, each training squad can include two players who have too much playing time to qualify for the squad under the previous rules, although this player may not have had more than two seasons accrued in the league. New rules cover the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and will end in 2016 without their extensions.
