The Jeep Wrangler is a series of compact and mid-size (Wrangler Unlimited and Wrangler 4-door JL) four-wheel drive off-road vehicle models, manufactured by Jeep since 1986, and is currently migrating from third to the fourth generation. Wrangler JL was unveiled at the end of 2017 and will be produced at the Toledo Jeep Complex.

This wrangler could be regarded as an indirect development of the Jeep of World War II, through CJ (Jeep Sipil) produced by Willys, Kaiser-Jeep and American Motors Corporation (AMC) from the mid-1940s to the 1980s. Both AMC and Chrysler (after buying AMC in 1987) have claimed that Wrangler is a direct descendant of the original military model.

However, just like the previous MB Willys and CJ Jeeps, all Wrangler models continue to use separate bodies and frames, rigid live axles both front and rear, tapered nose design with wide fenders, foldable windshield, and can be pushed without doors. Also, with a few exceptions, they have a four-wheel drive system part-time, with high and low gear options, and the standard is an open body with removable hard-or soft-tops. However, the Wrangler series is designed to be more comfortable on the road in an effort to attract more daily drivers, by increasing the suspension, drivetrain, and interior, compared to the CJ line. Specifically, the suspension on all Wranglers benefited from the addition of trackbars and anti-roll bars, and from TJ 1996 and beyond as well from coil-spring instead of leaf springs. Since 2004 a long wheelbase version has been available under the name Wrangler Unlimited . Initially Unlimited is a two-door model, but since 2006 has been offered as a four-door model.

It is very similar to the Jeep CJ-7, the first Wrangler, officially announced in February 1986 at the Chicago Auto Show 1986, based on a new set of design parameters. "The product philosophy behind two vehicles" FranÃÆ'§ois Castaing (AMC VP of Product Engineering) explains, "completely different". Although the 1987 Wrangler YJ continued to use a separate body and frame, with the same wheelbase as the CJ-7, and the axle that remained well in front and behind, it was a significant new design, which borrowed the suspension, drivetrain, and interior of the Cherokee model 1984 (XJ). The new car has a wider track, slightly less ground clearance, more comfort and better handling. YJ still has a leaf spring suspension similar to CJ - but the springs are wider, and the first Wrangler uses a trackbar suspension connection and anti-roll bar to improve handling and safety, making it less easy to reverse by untrained or unwed drivers..

Wrangler debuted in 1986 as a new model after the cessation of the famous Jeep CJ series. It was revised in 1996, and completely redesigned in 2006. In addition to the model name of Wrangler, each model received a designation appropriate to its generation: YJ (1986-1995), TJ (1997- 2006), TJU (commonly known as LJs-2004-2006 Unlimited model, or YJL, in the owner's manual of Egypt.), JKU (Unlimited model 2007-2017) and JK (2007-2017), and the latest JL model, introduced for 2018 model year. The foreign military version of Wrangler has brought the designation of the J8, originally dubbed TJL when it was first produced in the Egyptian Arab American Vehicle factory.

The Jeep YJ model was produced between 1986 and 1995 at the Brampton Assembly, and later at the Toledo South Assembly factory. The main difference in the 1987-1995 model is the rectangular headlights, which are returned to the round ones in TJ and then the JK versions. In 2006, Wrangler's production was transferred to the Toledo Complex. Post-2006 Wranglers are separated from their predecessors by the angle of the grille. On all previous models, the grille was flat and even with the front fenders. The newer wranglers are built with a grid that tilts out from the top, and then continues with a straight line from the midpoint, downward. This reduces the length of the hood, while increasing the length of the fender. In the newer model, this angle has been lowered more to the bottom of the grille.

There is a Jeep Wrangler Pickup that began production in 2019.
