WatchESPN (formerly ESPN Networks ) is a website of Internet television and mobile app operated by ESPN Inc., a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (which operates the network, through 80% controlling ownership of ownership) and Hearst Communications (which holds 20% of the rest).
This service provides streaming simulcasts of ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, Longhorn Network, SEC Network, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater for selected cable television customers in the United States; it is also an exclusive platform for broadcasting from ESPN3, which until 2011, has operated as a separate website with similar functionality to WatchESPN. This service is only available to participating cable subscribers, IPTV and satellite television providers, and is not offered as an internet subscription service only available to those who do not have pay-TV subscriptions.

Histori
Sebagai ESPN Networks
WatchESPN was originally launched on October 25, 2010, when Time Warner Cable became the first cable television provider to offer ESPN Networks, which provides customers to ESPN, an online channel simulation through a dedicated website. Bright House Networks (for Time Warner Cable handling distribution agreements) began offering ESPN Networks on November 22, 2010. On January 25, 2011, ESPN Networks added ESPN2 and ESPNU simulcast feed streams, as well as sports packages outside the ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater markets to website, accessible only to customers of the service. Verizon FiOS began providing access to streaming on the ESPN Networks website on February 17, 2011.
As WatchESPN
On April 7, 2011, ESPN released a mobile app called WatchESPN on the App Store for Apple devices, using the same customer authentication function to allow access to simulcast ESPN channels available on the service via iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch; the app was released on Android Market (now Google Play) on May 9, 2011. The ESPN Networks website then changed its brand under the WatchESPN name on August 31, 2011 (the "Watch" brand has since been applied to other TV Everywhere apps for owned television networks by co-owner of ESPN Disney-ABC Television Group since the launch of the service, including for ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform). On May 8, 2012, Comcast began allowing authenticated access of Xfinity TV subscribers to the WatchESPN stream through the app, as part of an agreement on which streams available at WatchESPN will also be available on the XfinityTV.com website. On August 28, 2012, Midco began allowing access to WatchesPN's simulcast for its subscribers. The Communications Charter adds access to services by mid-February 2013. Dish Network, the first satellite provider to provide access to WatchESPN, announces it has added service on April 1, 2014.
Longhorn Network and SEC Network programs added to this service after the launch of SEC Network on August 14, 2014 (Longhorn Network is limited to its distribution area and not nationally available through WatchESPN). As a result, ESPN Classic is the only remaining ESPN network that is not yet available for streaming on the service. ESPN Classic, which gradually deletes linear distributions, will be added in 2015.
Starting June 2017, ESPN has begun to emphasize the WatchesPN brand in the air that supports the ESPN application, which also has all the WatchesPN functionality in the app. Nevertheless, WatchESPN remains operational albeit with some bugs.

Distribution
Simulcast ESPN channels available on apps and the WatchESPN website (including ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater) are only available for AT & amp; T U-verse, Light House Network, Cablevision, Communication Charter, Cox Communications, Dish Network (including Sling TV subsidiaries), Google Fiber, Grande Communications, Midcontinent Communications, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and Xfinity TV (formerly Comcast Digital Cable ); Atlantic Broadband is set to begin allowing access to services for its customers by the end of 2014. By 2015, as part of a new agreement with The Walt Disney Company, DirecTV (the largest holder among major pay TV providers) adds authentication rights to WatchESPN for its customers.
Two major IPTV providers, Sling TV and PlayStation Vue, also offer authentication to WatchESPN; two services, however, offer the same feeds from ESPN networks performed on the WatchESPN platform (including with selected ads replaced by "Back to Back" messages and black screens), compared to the cable/satellite versions of each ESPN channel.
ESPN3, a similar service that has been operated separately from WatchESPN to be integrated into service in 2011, is available through many other cable providers including those listed above. In all cases, TV Everywhere login (or other login codes for universities and military customers) through the customer service provider is required to access the service; ESPN3 can also be accessed without login if the user's IP address can be traced to the participating ISP.

Platform
Website
The WatchESPN.com site allows fans to view and switch between up to 20 events in the main view window, which can surpass the amount of bandwidth that most broadband subscribers can handle. Events available in the recently completed service are archived and available for playback on demand. WatchESPN players also have four modules: Featured Events (which show the audience's highlights of upcoming and upcoming events available on WatchESPN), Stats (which show stats from streaming events), Chat 140 section (which allows fans to discuss events with other fans), and Facebook connect (which connect fans with their Facebook profile and allow them to post about the shows they watch on their wall and discuss the event with other Facebook fans).
Mobile devices
WatchESPN is available through the ESPN app for Android and iOS, and the WatchesPN app for Windows Phone. In December 2015, the WatchesPN streaming feature integrates directly into the main ESPN app for Android and iOS, with stand-alone WatchESPN apps being stopped on this platform.
Due to Verizon Wireless's exclusive rights to stream NFL games on mobile devices to its customers, NFL is not available in apps.
Digital media player
On June 19, 2013, this service is available through Apple TV. WatchESPN becomes available on the Roku streaming player on November 12, 2013. Chromecast support has been added to Android and iOS apps as part of an update released on June 3, 2014.
Windows 8/10
The WatchESPN app is available for download for Windows 8 compatible and Windows 8.1 compatible devices from Windows Store in February 2014, a version also compatible with Windows 10. Support for apps has been withdrawn on June 30, 2017, and is currently in apps for those who still have it, all ESPN video links redirect to the browser window.
Video game system
The WatchESPN service is available for download for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The ESPN app for Xbox 360 was discontinued on March 23, 2016.
