NFPA 70E discusses the electrical safety requirements in the workplace of employees. This standard focuses on practical protection that also allows workers to be productive in their job functions. Specifically, the standard includes security requirements for the following:

  1. Electrical conductors and equipment installed in or in other buildings or structures, including mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and elsewhere (yards, carnivals, parking lots and industrial substations)
  2. Conductor connecting installation to power supply

Not covered are - electrical installations at sea, airplanes, automated vehicles, communications and electric utilities.

The main principles discussed are the limits of shock protection, arc flash energy, lockout-tagout, and personal protective equipment. While various OSHA, ASTM, IEEE and NEC standards provide guidance for performance, practice addresses of NFPA 70E and are widely regarded as the de facto standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
